Term 3 - Week 4

Principal's Message

Dear Families,

Tomorrow we celebrate the beginning of ‘Book Week’ by having a whole school activity day at the Ambrosia campus. All families are invited to attend our costume parade from about 9:15am at the Ambrosia campus. Next week, students will also be involved in some class activities to celebrate the theme ‘Reading is an Adventure’.

Connecting Schools with Indian Communities project

This week our selected senior students began their dance lessons with our guest dance teacher Manpreet. Similarly,  our selected junior students began their art lessons with our guest art teacher Suhana. This is part of a bigger project happening across both our campuses. We will be documenting, via video, the project over the next two terms and cannot wait to see and share the final recording.

Maths Competition

Well done to our senior students who participated in the Maths comp last week. Over three days, our students challenged themselves by completing a series of paper based assessments. An awesome effort by all!

Network Curriculum Day - Friday Aug 22nd

This year, all primary and secondary schools from the Mitchell and Murrindindi area are coming together to engage in a whole day of professional development. There will be a number of guest speakers and interactive sessions on Literacy, Numeracy and Wellbeing. This is an exciting opportunity for all our staff to learn collaboratively with our neighbouring schools. Please note this will be a pupil free day for students. Team Kids will be offering their vacation care program at the Ambrosia campus for all BPS students.

A reminder that our Junior Campus Principal, Mrs Silvia Menelaou, will be taking long service leave from next week until the end of the term. Mrs Mel Blair, will step in as Acting Campus Principal during this time. Enjoy Portugal with your family, Mrs Menelaou!

Take care,

Christine Cole

Grade 5 Sport

During Year 5 Sport over the past two weeks, students have enjoyed participating in a variety of Net & Wall sports.

Week 2: Grade 5 students rotated through three stations, having the opportunity to play Badminton, Table Tennis, Tennis, Pickleball, and Bat Tennis. The focus for the week was to work in groups of four to create the longest possible rally.

Week 3: The focus shifted to more competitive matches. Students were introduced to the concept of ‘Fast 4’ scoring, a simple system for keeping score in their games. They could choose from any of the sports listed above and try to get their name on the leaderboard in one of two competition styles:

  • Rally Mode – Teams of 2 or 4 attempted to record the longest rally in their chosen sport.

  • Championship Mode – Teams competed using Fast 4 scoring to win matches and count how many teams they were able to defeat, without being defeated themselves.

The students should be commended for their efforts, and it was fantastic to see students having the opportunity to choose their preferred sports, score and referee their own games and enjoy the sunshine and physical activity. Students and teachers alike have commented on how much they enjoyed the sessions and are looking forward to more opportunities to be involved in Net & Wall sports.
