Dear Families,
Thank you to all families who came along to the Mandalay pool last Friday for our Swimming Carnival day. It was a fabulous day! Congratulations to MARRAM (RED) HOUSE for winning the most points on the day! Make sure you check out all the photos from the day.

Thank you to everyone who attended our campus assemblies at the beginning of the week. Your presence and support make these assemblies truly special for our students and staff. Looking forward to seeing you all again at our next campus assemblies in week 6 - Monday 2nd March.

FEBRUARY
MARCH
The Year 1s have settled in well to the year.
We have revisited the school values and discussed the Zones of Regulation. Students are encouraged to think about their behaviour and how their emotions impact on their learning and the learning of others. Students often use movement breaks to refocus their attention and sometimes they need to calm their bodies after lunch with a quiet meditation so that they are ready to learn.
We have read the text Possum Goes to School. Our follow up writing task was to describe an animal's size, texture, colour, and shape. Students worked in pairs to complete the activity.
Please continue to support your child by ensuring that they are ready to learn by arriving at school by 8:45 am every day. It is extremely important that students walk in calmly together to begin their day.
Reminders:
Foundation students have enjoyed a positive and enthusiastic start to their Art lessons. Through play-based activities, students are exploring painting, drawing, cutting, and pasting while becoming familiar with the art room and its routines. Painting and drawing experiences allow students to experiment with colour, lines, and shapes, supporting creativity and early fine motor development.
Cutting and pasting activities help build hand strength, coordination, and confidence as students practise using tools safely and independently. Students rotate through a range of simple activities, learning to share materials, follow instructions, and work alongside their classmates.
I cannot wait to see what amazing art creations our Foundation students will produce during the year.
Ms. Bourke
Students at the Ambrosia Campus enjoyed a fantastic day at Mandalay on the Lawn and in the pool! This year’s revised swimming carnival program saw our Year 2 and Year 3 students taking part in house games and activities on the Mandalay Lawn before joining our Grade 4–6 students at the Swimming Carnival held at Club Mandalay.
Students in Grades 4–6 had the opportunity to race in the four competitive strokes — Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly — or grab a pool noodle and float down the participation lane, earning points for their house. Meanwhile, our Year 2 and Year 3 students competed for their house teams in a sponge relay, water balloon race and tunnel ball on the lawn.
We were excited to showcase our students’ abilities in the mixed 6 × 25 m House Relay, with Warrin House securing a comfortable win. Thank you to all staff and students for their efforts on the day — in particular, well done to the undefeated Mrs Horton in the Parents and Staff race. A special congratulations to Liv T for posting record-setting times in all four strokes — a huge performance — and for securing 1st place in the special race against both Mr Hamilton and Mrs Horton to finish off our carnival.
Thank you to all students for representing our school with pride in the community. We are looking forward to more opportunities throughout the year for students to display their sporting abilities.
Final House Scores:
397 – Marram (Red)
391 – Bujil (Blue)
341 – Warrin (Yellow)
327 – Gawa (Green)
Please keep an eye out for more information about students earning their place to race at the District Swimming Carnival on 27th February, to be held at the Seymour War Memorial Outdoor Pool.
In Literacy, Grade 3 students have been enjoying our class novel Matilda by Roald Dahl. We have been exploring characters and key events themes from the story while developing our sentence writing skills. Students have been creating written responses inspired by Matilda’s clever ideas and practising the use of sentence starters and conjunctions to clearly express their thoughts.
We have also been demonstrating the value of Togetherness in our classroom. Students worked collaboratively to design a large heart puzzle, with each piece showing how we help and support one another. This meaningful display is now proudly displayed on our classroom walls, reminding us that we are all part of one team.
In Grade 5, we are currently exploring narrative writing using the mentor text My Place by Nadia Wheatley and Donna Rawlins. Students are analysing how historical events and personal stories are woven together across different time periods in Australia. Through this text, we are linking our writing to our Inquiry unit on “This Place”, encouraging students to consider how history shapes identity, belonging, and community. Students are developing their ability to craft engaging narratives by focusing on setting, character development, historical context, and descriptive language.
In Mathematics, our focus is on decimals and data. Students are strengthening their understanding of place value, particularly tenths, hundredths, and thousandths, and exploring how decimals relate to fractions and percentages. In our data unit, students are collecting, representing, and interpreting data using a range of graphs and displays. They are developing skills in analysing trends, comparing data sets, and justifying their reasoning using mathematical language.

Thank you to all the families who joined us for our first campus assemblies this week!
Well done to our new student leaders for hosting the assemblies and congratulations to those students who received awards. We’re excited for our next campus assemblies in week 6.
