Term 1 - Week 4

Principal's Message

Dear Families,

It has been great to see our families at our campuses last week and this week for our Meet & Greet sessions with classroom teachers. I hope everyone was able to visit the Book Fair and purchase some new reading material. We have one more Meet & Greet night happening next Wednesday at the Junior campus.

Parent Helper Induction Session

Thank you to those parents/guardians who have booked in to attend our volunteer induction session next Monday morning. We love having our school community members volunteer their time in the classrooms helping and supporting our students. The next induction session will be held on Monday 23rd March at 4pm. Please contact the Office if you would like to attend.

Student Leadership

Congratulations to all students, across both campuses, who have willinging taken on the role as a student leader for 2026. We are looking forward to seeing you all step up and be leaders amongst your peers. All students will be presented with their badges at the campus assemblies in week 6.

Emergency Procedures - Lockdown Drill

Each term the school undertakes emergency procedures to make sure all staff and students are aware of what to do in the event of an emergency. Next Friday, February 27th both campuses will practice a Lockdown emergency drill prior to recess time. This practice drill aligns with our school focus on safety.

Enjoy your weekend,

Christine Cole

Principal

Inappropriate Behaviour

We are writing to inform you of an ongoing concern regarding inappropriate behaviour and vandalism in our student bathrooms.

Unfortunately, there have been repeated incidents where students have:

  • Peeled wallpaper off the walls
  • Urinated on the floors and in the corners of cubicles deliberately
  • Smeared substances on walls, believed to be paint, markers and, in some cases, faeces

This behaviour is extremely concerning and does not reflect the values we promote at Beveridge Primary School.

At this stage, we have not been able to identify those responsible, as students are providing conflicting information and accusations. Based on the nature and frequency of these incidents, we believe this behaviour involves multiple students.

The cost of repairing this damage is significant, already amounting to hundreds of dollars. This means funds are being redirected away from important areas such as student learning programs and resources.

We ask for your support in speaking with your child about this issue. Please reinforce the importance of:

  • Respecting school property
  • Maintaining hygiene and appropriate use of facilities
  • Taking responsibility for their actions
  • Speaking honestly with staff if they know information

It is important that all students understand that this behaviour is unacceptable and impacts the entire school community.

We appreciate your support in working together to address this matter.

Traffic Congestion

Traffic Congestion in Beveridge: Still Our Daily Nightmare!

The once peaceful town of Beveridge is now facing a pressing issue—traffic congestion! With more developers, residents and visitors, the roads around Beveridge are becoming increasingly congested, especially during peak hours. This has led to long delays, stressful commutes, and frustration for all community members.

Residents are encouraged to bring attention to this issue by writing to the Mitchell Shire Council, as well as Members of Parliament. Your voice matters in helping to address the traffic congestion and find solutions that will improve the daily lives of all in Beveridge.

The school will continue to advocate for upgrades and changes and will be meeting with representatives from Mitchell Shire Council to discuss the traffic issue and ongoing concerns.

Let’s work together to create a more connected and livable community!

I encourage our school community to make contact with the following people to voice your concerns and advocate for change.

A list of who you can send an email/letter to:

Jacinta Allan Victorian Premier : jacinta.allan@parliament.vic.gov.au

Kalkallo Electorate (including Beveridge) MP Ros Spence ros.spence@parliament.vic.gov.au

Ben Carroll Minister for Education: ben.carroll@parliament.vic.gov.au

Gabrielle Willaims Minister for Transport: gabrielle.williams@parliament.vic.gov.au

Mitchell Shire Council: mitchell@mitchellshire.vic.gov.au

Communication with Teachers

We value strong partnerships between home and school and encourage open communication between families and teachers. To ensure teachers can effectively support all students, we ask that parents and carers are mindful of appropriate times to approach staff.

Before school and at the start of lessons are busy times, as teachers are preparing for the day and supervising students. For this reason, these times are not suitable for meetings or extended conversations.

If you would like to speak with your child’s teacher, please:

  • Communicate via Compass/email to organise a suitable time, or
  • Contact the school to arrange a meeting time

This ensures teachers can give you their full attention and have any necessary information prepared.

Thank you for your understanding and support in helping us maintain a calm and organised start to each school day.

Foundation

The Foundation 2 students have been working incredibly hard to familiarise themselves with our school routines and expectations. We’ve spent time exploring the school, meeting new teachers, and learning in different spaces during our specialist classes.

In the classroom, students have been learning the sounds that the letters a, i, m, s, and t make. They have been practising how to write these letters and thinking of words that begin with each sound. We have also been learning about books and how to hold and use them correctly. We have been practicing identifying important features such as the title, author, and illustrator.

Last week, we celebrated 10 days of school! Students have been working hard on their numbers from 0–5, learning how to read and write them with growing confidence.

In Inquiry, we are learning about families, who is in our families and where our families come from. This has sparked some wonderful discussions, with students proudly sharing stories and learning about the similarities and differences that make each family unique.

We are so proud of how positively our students are settling in. They are building confidence, developing independence, and showing great enthusiasm as they become valued members of our school community.

Warm regards,

Foundation 2 Team

Grade 4

Welcome to Grade 4!
Welcome to the year where students grow taller, smarter, more independent… and somehow manage to lose pencils at record speed! Grade 4 is officially underway, and our classrooms are already buzzing with learning, laughter, and enthusiasm.

The first few weeks have been all about helping students feel settled, confident, and ready to take on everything Grade 4 has to offer and they’ve done a fantastic job.

Meet the Grade 4 Team
Our Grade 4 students are supported by a passionate and dedicated team:

  • 4A – Ms Rawas
  • 4B – Mr Dinning & Ms Richards
  • 4C – Mr Marsay
  • 4D – Ms Jaross
  • 4E – Ms Besim

Together, the team is committed to creating positive, supportive classrooms where students are encouraged to challenge themselves, celebrate success, and grow academically and socially.

Our Grade 4 Motto
“What do we do in Grade 4? Work hard. Be kind.”
This motto guides everything we do  in the classroom, the playground, and how we treat one another every day.

Routines, Routines, Routines!
Strong routines have been a big focus, and our students are rising to the challenge by:

Learning classroom expectations
Organising their learning materials
Working more independently
Remembering (most of the time!) to put their names on their work

Calm, focused classrooms are the result and Grade 4 is off to a great start.

Settling In Like Grade 4 Pros
Friendships are forming, confidence is growing, and classrooms are becoming welcoming spaces where students feel safe to share ideas, ask questions, and be themselves. Desks are (mostly!) organised, and students are showing pride in their learning and their spaces.

Looking Ahead
The year ahead will bring challenges, creativity, teamwork, and plenty of opportunities to celebrate growth. We are incredibly proud of how our Grade 4 students have started the year and can’t wait to see what they achieve.

Thank you for your ongoing support and for being part of the Beveridge Primary School community. Here’s to a fantastic Grade 4 year filled with learning, laughter, and kindness!

Warm regards,
The Grade 4 Team and Cohort

Music/Performing Arts @ Arrowsmith

Performing Arts Arrowsmith

This term in Performing Arts at the Arrowsmith campus the Foundation and Grade 1 students have been focussing on learning about music and dance from different cultures in preparation for Harmony Day. Foundation students are learning the Serbian dance ‘Kolo’ where together they will learn to work as a team and move as one. It is a cheerful and fun circle dance that the grade 3’s will also jump in on to support them in their performance. Grade 1’s are learning the Italian song Tarantella, practicing to use the tambourine and keeping time with the rhythm.

Music/Performing Arts @ Ambrosia

Performing Arts classes at our Ambrosia campus have been busy learning cultural performances for Harmony Day. We have been working on singing “I am Australian" and signing the song in Auslan, as well as moving our bodies to music and counting the beat as we go. Students have had focussed learning on different countries and cultures for each year level including Spanish Flamenco, Serbian Kolo, Greek Zorba, Russian Kalinka and Australian First Nations music and dance.
