Dear Families,
We have already made it to the halfway point of Term 1 - what a fantastic milestone! Congratulations to all students for your hard work and positive attitudes so far. A special shout-out goes to our Foundation students, who have achieved so much in their very first weeks of school and are settling in beautifully. Keep up the great effort, everyone!
Student Leadership
Congratulations to all students, across both campuses, who have taken on the role as a student leader for 2026. We are looking forward to seeing you all step up and be leaders amongst your peers. All students will be presented with their badges at the campus assemblies on Monday. Families are most welcome to attend. Ambrosia 9:10am and Arrowsmith 2:40pm.
NAPLAN Assessments
Our grade 3 and 5 students will be undertaking the online NAPLAN Literacy and Numeracy assessments coming up shortly in weeks 7 and 8. The students have been undertaking preparation in class understanding how to read and respond to the different questions and also how to use the devices.
Emergency Procedures - Lockdown Drill
Tomorrow both campuses will practice a Lockdown emergency drill prior to recess time. This practice drill aligns with our school focus on safety.
Looking forward to our Zooper Days (Wed at Ambrosia & Thurs at Arrowsmith) run by our Parents & Friends committee next week!
Have a great weekend,
Christine Cole
Principal
We are delighted to share that our 2026 Student Leadership Group will be formally announced at this week’s school assembly — a momentous occasion for our whole school community. This special announcement recognises the commitment, enthusiasm and service demonstrated by our students throughout the leadership selection process.
We warmly invite the parents and carers of these appointed student leaders to join us at the assembly to celebrate this achievement. Your presence will make the occasion even more memorable for your child, as we acknowledge their dedication and the leadership qualities they will bring to our school in the year ahead.

FEBRUARY
MARCH
APRIL
This week, in Reading we read a book called Library Lion. When reading our mentor text, we sometimes read the book and at other times we view a clip of the text being read online.
Library Lion by Michelle Knudsen is a story about a friendly lion who visits a quiet library. The lion learns the rules, like walking slowly and being quiet. He becomes a helpful friend to the librarian and the visitors. One day, the lion must decide if it is okay to break a rule to help someone. This warm story shows that rules are important, but kindness matters most. Students were able to identify some of the ways the lion was helpful.
In Maths, students have been making 2-digit numbers with base 10 materials (MAB blocks), then comparing and ordering the numbers. Students have also enjoyed measuring the length of objects using informal units such as paper clips, MAB blocks and unifix blocks.
Grade 2
It has been fantastic to see all students engaged in their learning and trying their best.
In Writing the grade 2’s have been learning to make a basic sentence more interesting using the words ‘but, because and so’.
In Reading the Grade 2’s have been studying the book called ‘The Sloth Who Came to Stay’. Students enjoyed reading this book and can understand the importance of slowing down and enjoying the special time with your family.
In Maths students have enjoyed using their EMP books! The students are absolutely loving this new maths program and it is evident that the teaching and learning is powerful.
Kind Regards,
Grade 2 Teachers
In Grade 6, the past three weeks have been busy, productive and filled with wonderful learning opportunities.
We began with an exciting Swimming Carnival, where students demonstrated great sportsmanship, resilience and enthusiasm. It was fantastic to see so many students participating, encouraging one another and celebrating each other’s efforts. A big thank you to all families for your support on the day.
Students also showed initiative and teamwork by selling Zooper Doopers at lunchtime. This was a fun way to build responsibility and contribute positively to our school community.
In Mathematics, our focus has been on decimals. Students have been strengthening their understanding of place value, including tenths, hundredths and thousandths, and exploring how decimals connect to fractions and percentages. They have been applying these skills to real-world problems and explaining their reasoning using clear mathematical language.
In Writing, students have been developing their narrative skills. They have been crafting engaging stories with a strong focus on character development, descriptive language and building tension. We have been encouraging students to “show, not tell” and to carefully consider how setting and plot shape the reader’s experience.
In Inquiry, we have been learning about Australian History, particularly Federation and how the colonies united to become one nation. Students have explored how this significant change shaped Australia’s identity and continues to influence our country today.
We also recently held our Meet and Greet sessions with parents. It was wonderful to connect with families, share learning goals and celebrate the positive start students have made this year. We value the strong partnership between home and school and appreciate your ongoing support.
We look forward to another exciting few weeks of growth and learning in Grade 6!
Auslan in Year 2
Year 2 students have been learning about the language of Auslan, how Auslan works and how to spell words using the Auslan alphabet. This week they have started looking at how we can sign different classroom routines and actions. They are having lots of fun playing a game to help practise!
Auslan in Year 4
Year 4 students have been learning Auslan signs for everyday use. They looked at morning routines, signing the time, and meal time signs. This week, they’re putting all of their learning together to sign their daily routines.
Grade Six First Nations Cultural Workshops
Our Grade Six students have recently had the privilege of learning about First Nations culture, language, music and dance from guest teacher and cultural educator Nartarsha Bamblett. Students moved in unison to the sound of clapsticks, our voices and the Yidaki which we learnt is the culturally appropriate word for the didgeridoo. Nartarsha guided students through movement and sound as we explored Australian animals, country and the elements. Togetherness and Respect were woven through the learning as students held respect for each other, our stories, our countries and we always moved together, keeping us feeling safe and connected. We thank Nartarsha for sharing her knowledge, wisdom, stories, dance and language. Bugalbee Tarsh (which means thank you Tarsh in Bundjalung language).
