Dear Families,
Did you know that we have 846 students and 100 staff members at Beveridge PS who come from more than 25 different countries and can speak 36 different languages?! Tomorrow we will be celebrating Harmony Day, whereby we celebrate our community diversity and multiculturalism throughout Australia. Looking forward to seeing students wearing cultural dress or splash of orange throughout the campuses and enjoying our community picnic at the Ambrosia campus from 4-6pm.
Campus Assemblies - Monday
Looking forward to our third and final campus assemblies for the term taking place on Monday. We have some of our Grade 1 & Grade 4 students presenting. Assemblies take place at the following times: Ambrosia campus 9:10am and Arrowsmith campus 2:40pm.
Cyber-Safety Parent/Guardian Seminar Monday 30th March 5pm to 6:30pm
I strongly encourage parents and guardians (no students allowed due to topics discussed) to attend this parent seminar as it is extremely informative of how to best teach and support your child in the digital age. To register, please refer to the Compass message that went out earlier this week.
Next week the students will also be involved in a cyber-safety incursion, titled ‘The Protectors’, to support the students learning from Cyber-Safety lessons this term.
AEU Industrial action - Stop Work Tuesday 24th March
The Australian Education Union (AEU) has advised that its members have been called to take industrial action on Tuesday 24 March 2026.
With a high number of our staff taking part in this strike day, there will be an impact on our ability to run the usual classroom program, and many classes across each year level will not have their regular teacher present on the day.
We are currently reviewing staffing arrangements and will confirm tomorrow (Friday) the number of teachers available and what supervision arrangements will be in place.
In the meantime, we kindly ask families to prepare alternative care arrangements for their children where possible for that day, as the school’s capacity to operate as normal will be limited. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
NAPLAN Assessments
Our grade 3 and 5 students have been amazing at completing their NAPLAN assessments. Well done! And, we are now just catching up with individual students who may have been absent. A special thank you to all the leaders and teachers who have led the organisation and delivery of the assessments.
Eid Mubarak to Our School Community
Over the coming days, many of our families will be celebrating Eid, beginning on the evening of Friday and continuing through Saturday. This special occasion marks the end of Ramadan and is a time for reflection, gratitude and celebrating with family and friends.
We would like to wish all families in our community who are celebrating a joyful and peaceful Eid. May this special time bring happiness, connection and celebration to you and your loved ones. Eid Mubarak!
Yours sincerely,
Silvia Menelaou
Acting Principal

Join us for our Harmony Day Community Picnic as we celebrate diversity, inclusion and belonging within our wonderful school community. Families are invited to bring a picnic OR enjoy the food trucks provided as we come together to recognise that “Everyone Belongs.”
Our after-school celebration from 4–6pm will be a special opportunity for families to come together, connect and share in the festivities. There will be “come and try” sessions featuring dancing and singing from a range of cultures, followed by a number of performances to conclude the evening. All of our students have been exploring and performing dances from a specific culture as part of their Performing Arts classes this term.
We cannot wait to see our community united in orange, or in your traditional cultural dress as we celebrate the rich and diverse cultures that make our school so special
Our Foundation students have been working incredibly hard and are close to completing their first term of primary school!
In English, students have been revising the sounds made by the letters a, i, m, s, t, n, o, and p. We have been practising writing these letters and thinking of words that begin with each sound. Students have also been using their growing sound knowledge to read and write VC and CVC words (e.g. at, it, nap, map, nit, tap).
We have continued our learning about books and how to use them correctly. Students are able to identify important features such as the title, author, and illustrator, and we have been practising key reading behaviours such as reading from left to right.
In Maths, students have been using materials to further develop their understanding of numbers 0–5. We have been practising subitising (recognising the number of objects in a small group without counting) using a six-sided dice, and continuing to develop correct number formation. Students have also been exploring different types of two-part patterns (e.g. colour, movement, object).
In Inquiry, we have been learning about families, exploring similarities and differences between them. Students have engaged in meaningful discussions about the past and present, and how families may differ depending on where they live.
In Wellbeing, students have continued to practise identifying their emotions using the Zones of Regulation. We have also been learning about expected and unexpected behaviours at school. We are so proud of how positively our students have settled into primary school.
Home readers have been sent home this week. Please read the letter included in your child’s bag for important information about the program. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher via Compass.
Only 2 more weeks until holidays… but who’s counting!
Going strong in Grade 2!
The grade 2’s are getting excited about Harmony Day Celebrations this Friday and have been participating in activities that celebrate inclusiveness and celebrating our differences.
We are continuing to create our family trees in Inquiry where students are elaborating on their relationships and identifying their favourite memories. We are encouraging students to bring in any spare photos they have that they have stick onto their family tree.
Regards,
Grade 2 Teachers
Grade 6 Term 1 Week 8 Newsletter
Zooper Dooper sales are continuing to go extremely well. The Grade 6 cohort has been showing great responsibility when running the sales and has demonstrated what it means to be reliable leaders within our school. Students have been organised, respectful and enthusiastic when helping with the process, and their efforts have been greatly appreciated.
For English, students have recently published their original narrative writing pieces. They worked through the full writing process including planning, drafting, editing and publishing. It has been fantastic to see the creativity, descriptive language and storytelling skills that students have developed through their narratives.
In Mathematics, students are continuing their learning about decimals. Over the coming lessons they will begin connecting this understanding to fractions, helping them see the relationship between the two concepts. Students are also learning about time, including working with both 12-hour and 24-hour time and solving real-world time problems.
For Inquiry, students will begin a research project next week where they will work in pairs to investigate how particular people or groups helped shape Australian society during the 20th century (1900–2000). Students will research their chosen topic and present their findings, explaining how these individuals or groups influenced rights, opportunities or life in Australia.
Over the past two weeks for 6 Sport, students practised key netball skills and participated in game play. It was great to see teamwork, communication and effort as students applied the skills they have been learning in real game situations.
Students at Arrowsmith have been working hard on their Serbian Kolo and Italian Tarantella Dances. We are looking forward to seeing their hard work in action at our Harmony Day celebrations taking place at school this Friday 20 March from 4pm at our Ambrosia campus.
In the second half of Term 1, students at Ambrosia Campus have been working hard to prepare for Athletics Day. Students have participated in games and activities with the aim of improving their movement skills and learning techniques and strategies for competing in track and field events. They have practiced events including relay, hurdles, triple-jump, shot, put and discus. In week 10, students will apply their skills to a team event with a focus on fun and participation.
There’s something for everyone:
