Dear Families,
Thank you to everyone for coming along to our Harmony Day Community Picnic last Friday night. It was a truly memorable event that I know we all loved sharing together. Thank you to all staff involved and especially Ms Bourke who organised the event. I am already looking forward to next year’s Harmony Day.
School Council AGM Update
We held our Annual General Meeting (AGM) last week on Monday night, and we’re excited to welcome new members to the School Council! Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussions. We look forward to working together to support and enhance our school community in the year ahead.
Cyber- Safety Seminar
Next Monday we will be hosting a parent/guardian Cyber-Safety seminar hosted by a member of the Australian Federal Police. This seminar will share valuable information on how to educate our young people to be safe online and what to do when you have concerns. I highly recommend all parents attend this seminar. If you have not registered to attend this event, please do so through the compass post reminder sent this week.
AEU Industrial Strike Day Tuesday 24th March
On Tuesday, members of the Australian Education Union (AEU) participated in industrial action across Victoria. At our school, 51 staff members attended, and I would like to sincerely thank our community for your understanding and flexibility in supporting us through the day.
While industrial action can be disruptive, it is important for our community to understand that this action is not solely about pay. Our teachers and education staff are advocating for conditions that directly impact the quality of education and support we can provide to every child.
This includes:
At its core, this action is about strengthening public education and ensuring that every student receives the attention, support and opportunities they deserve.
We appreciate your ongoing support as we continue to advocate for the best outcomes for our students and school community.
Easter Celebrations
The end of term 1 is only one week away, which means we have our junior campus Easter bonnet parade on Thursday morning (9:15am), we find out who wins the many hampers from the raffle and of course we get our delivery of hot cross buns. I hope you are all looking forward to the Easter celebrations next week.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Silvia Menelaou
Acting Principal
Dear Families,
A reminder to book in to the Cyber-Safety Seminar for all parents/carers. We ask all families to attend this very important seminar /presentation run by the Australia Federal Police and ThinkUKnow Australia.
This session will run on Monday 30th March at 6pm, Beveridge Primary School (senior campus).
ThinkUKnow Australia provides a balanced perspective of technology, providing information on both its benefits and its challenges.
Topics included within the presentation are specifically aimed at educating and increasing awareness about online child sexual exploitation including avoiding inappropriate contact, online grooming, self-generated content, sexual extortion and how to get help.
As parents and carers, you play an important role in protecting your child from harm. This presentation aims to support you in preventing and managing safety challenges that your child may face, as well as guiding your child to understand these and feel empowered to take action.
The presentation is for parents/careers, and not suitable for children due to the nature of the topics discussed. The presentation will generally run for 60 minutes, however we recommend allowing an extra 30 minutes for questions and further discussion.
When: Monday 30th March at 6pm
Location: Senior Campus (Ambrosia) Staffroom
Please RSVP via this link by Friday 27th March.
We hope to see all parents/carers at the seminar.
Regards,
The Principal Team

WPBS Silver Award
Our school is proud to share that we have been awarded the Silver School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) Award, recognising our strong commitment to creating a safe, supportive and positive learning environment for all students.
SWPBS focuses on clearly teaching behaviour expectations, recognising positive behaviour and supporting students to make great choices at school. This whole-school approach helps ensure students feel safe, included and ready to learn.
This award reflects the ongoing commitment of our staff to build consistent practices, use positive classroom strategies and continually review how we support student wellbeing and behaviour.
While achieving the Silver Award is an important milestone, it is not the end of our journey. We will continue to refine our practices, strengthen our systems and work towards Gold level implementation in the future.
We thank our staff, students and families for their role in helping create a positive school culture.
Our Harmony Day celebration was a huge success!
Our students enjoyed a vibrant day of activities celebrating culture, identity and respect. Our community picnic celebration was fantastic with performances from all our year levels that showcased our students learning in Performing Arts and Auslan this term. That truly was a spectacular finale!
The food trucks were popular as always, and to see everyone exploring our popular “come and try” area, featuring dance and cultural experiences was great. It was wonderful to see everyone dressed in orange or in their magnificent cultural dress coming together in the spirit of inclusion and belonging. Thank you to our students, staff and families for making the day so memorable—truly showing that everyone belongs.

Newsletter Year 1
English
Students in Year 1 have continued to develop their sound knowledge through daily Heggerty and Sounds Write lessons. We have read Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge by Mem Fox. This wonderful text helped the students to understand what a memory is and how important objects can help us recall our memories. The Year 1 students have been writing terrific simple sentences that include an adjective, a noun and a verb. They have been working on using capital letters to begin sentences and full stops at the end of a sentence.
Maths
In Maths students have been working on their understanding of partitioning numbers to 20 using ten frames, bar models and number bonds. We have explored capacity, using various containers to both measure and compare how much they will hold. Students understand how to label a container as holds more, holds less and holds the same as another container.
Wellbeing/ Inquiry
Throughout the term, students have been making comparisons of the past and present in our community, Beveridge. They also enjoyed comparing toys from the past to toys today looking at what materials toys are made from. Students designed and then constructed a model of a toy using recycled materials. Last week, students enjoyed participating in a range of Harmony Week activities.
In Literacy, students have been focusing on poetry, exploring creative vegetable and colour poems. They have been experimenting with descriptive language, vivid imagery, and interesting word choices to bring their ideas to life. Students have enjoyed expressing their creativity through writing their own poems and sharing them with the class, building confidence and a love of language.
We also participated in the Protectors incursion, where students designed and created their own protector shields to help navigate tricky situations, encouraging resilience and problem-solving skills.
Additionally, we have been learning about different celebrations, as well as sharing and appreciating our own cultures and traditions, helping to build a sense of inclusion and respect within our classroom community.
Teaching teams are currently working together to plan for next term’s learning, focusing on creating an inclusive curriculum that supports and challenges every student. Through collaboration and shared expertise, they are ensuring learning experiences are purposeful, responsive and designed to meet the diverse needs of all learners.
Here are our fabulous Foundation teachers collaborating to ensure consistency in teaching and learning across the cohort.
Performing Arts- Ambrosia Campus
Students have been learning and practicing their cultural dances of the Serbian Kolo, Greek Zorba and Russian Kalinka. Their focus has been on performing the dance steps with great strength, keeping in time with the music and showing an appropriate face when performing.
