Dear Families,
This week has been full of exciting opportunities for our students, with many engaging extracurricular activities taking place across the school. Students thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Chess program and the Hockey Roadshow, where they developed teamwork, problem-solving skills and confidence while having lots of fun.
Teacher Professional Practice Day (pupil free day)
Coming up on Thursday May 28th is a pupil free day for all Beveridge PS students. Teachers will spend the day focusing on curriculum preparation, assessment and reporting. Team Kids are offering vacation care for the day for families who require care for their child/ren for the day.
Next Week - Principals Conference
The principal team will be attending the Government Schools Principal Conference next week on Thursday and Friday. The theme for this year is “Leading Together for Excellence and Equity”. The conference will provide evidence-informed professional learning, inspiring presentations, workshops and networking opportunities.
Campus Assemblies next Monday
We have our next campus assemblies for the term coming up next Monday at 9:10am at Ambrosia campus and 2:40pm at the Arrowsmith campus. Families are all invited to attend.
Stay warm and well over the weekend,
Christine Cole
Next Wednesday 27th May, we will be welcoming some visitors to our School as part of our ‘special persons morning’. Students have been sending some invitations to their special person they would like to attend. If you could ensure if you, or another family member is attending, can you please RSVP via the invitation so we have an idea of attendees on the day.
The invitation has the times of the event at each campus, so please read carefully.
ON THE DAY - visitors will scan a QR code and record their name and the student they are with for our records as well as placing a name tag on for identification purposes whilst in the school grounds.
At Arrowsmith the QR codes will be at classrooms.
At Ambrosia the QR codes will be at the front gates and this area will be monitored by our leadership team.
It should be a wonderful morning where our visitors will be invited to join in with some classroom activities, specialist classes and some other activities as planned.

We’re Taking It in Our Stride – Friday 22 May 2026
It’s that time of year again when our school shines a spotlight on something simple but powerful—walking!
Walk Safely to School Day on Friday 22 May 2026 encourages families to pause and reflect on their daily travel habits, and to look for easy ways to include more walking into everyday routines. While walking the entire journey to school may not be realistic for everyone, there are many small changes that can make a big difference to children’s health and wellbeing.
You can help your child build the healthy habit of walking more by:
Regular walking is a simple but powerful form of exercise. It helps support healthy growth and development, and can reduce the risk of long-term health concerns such as obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and mental health challenges. It also provides valuable time to connect with your child and talk about their day.
Importantly, walking together is also a great opportunity to reinforce road safety skills. Children learn how to navigate traffic environments safely, build awareness of their surroundings, and practise responsible pedestrian behaviour.
Remember—active kids are healthy kids. Let’s take this opportunity to plan your Walk Safely to School journey and make Friday 22 May 2026 a positive step toward lifelong healthy habits.

During term two, many grade 1 students have been learning about technology programming with Bee Bots.
Bee Bots are devices that will only move when a command or commands are inputted into them. They can move forwards, turn right, turn left, or stop so a Bee Bot can be commanded to move from point A to point B around obstacles with a series of steps. Students have been learning about that steps have to thought about carefully because one missed or wrong step can cause the Bee Bot to not arrive at the intended destination.
Cross Country
All the Year 5 students participated in the school Cross Country event last week. Students demonstrated excellent resilience, determination and sportsmanship as they completed their races. Depending on their age group, students ran distances of up to 3 kilometres.
It was wonderful to see students encouraging one another, trying their personal best and showing great persistence throughout the event. We are very proud of the positive attitude and effort shown by all students who participated. Congratulations to everyone involved!
Chess
We have also begun our Chess Instruction incursions this term. Students have been enthusiastically learning strategies, problem-solving skills and the rules of the game through engaging weekly sessions. Chess provides a fantastic opportunity for students to develop critical thinking, concentration and perseverance while having fun learning a new skill.
Week 5 Arrowsmith Sport NRL Clinic
Our Grade One students recently had an exciting opportunity to take part in an NRL clinic, where they learned new rugby league skills in a fun and active environment. Throughout the session, students practised passing, kicking, teamwork, and coordination through a range of engaging games and activities led by experienced coaches.
The clinic encouraged students to work together, build confidence, and demonstrate great sportsmanship while staying active and having fun.
A big thank you to the NRL coaches for delivering such an enjoyable and energetic experience for our students!
The beginning of Term 2 has brought a number of exciting sporting opportunities to students across the school, including our AFL lunchtime visit, NRL Tag Carnival, Grade 2 and 3 Swimming Program, and selected classes participating in the Hockey Roadshow.
Most importantly, we have continued to see strong student involvement in the School Sport Victoria (SSV) pathway program. SSV provides students with opportunities to represent the school in a variety of sports and progress through District, Division, Regional and State levels of competition. These events not only allow students to challenge themselves athletically, but also build confidence, teamwork, resilience and school pride while competing against students from other schools.
Grade 4–6 Athletics Carnival – May 6th, 2026
On Wednesday 6th May, students from Years 4–6 were given the opportunity to compete at the Meadowglen International Athletics Carnival. Students participated in a variety of track and field events throughout the day. This was a unique opportunity for our school, as the venue will also host the District and Division events later in the year.
Our students did an outstanding job demonstrating the school values of Respect, Togetherness, Resilience and Excellence, earning recognition from the track organiser as “an enthusiastic and very well behaved cohort of students.”
It was fantastic to see students encouraging one another, trying their best and showing great sportsmanship across all events. A huge congratulations to the successful students who will receive notification to represent the school at the Mitchell District Athletics Championships on Thursday 4th September.
School Cross Country Carnival – May 14th, 2026
The following week, on Wednesday 14th May, students in Years 4–6 participated in our annual School Cross Country Carnival. Students challenged themselves across the 2km and 3km courses around our school grounds and showed great determination and resilience throughout the event.
A special thank you to our handyman Frank, whose work on our newly constructed sound trolley helped make the day run smoothly. Having access to a microphone for announcements and music throughout the event added greatly to the atmosphere and excitement of the carnival.
The carnival was a fantastic opportunity for students to build confidence, challenge themselves and support their peers. Selected students will now go on to represent the school at the District Cross Country Carnival, to be held at the Broadford Motorcycle Track on Friday 29th May. Families of successful students should have received communication through Compass. Thank you to those families who have already responded promptly to the event details.
In Performing Arts students have been learning the words and melody of their class song. We have been experimenting with body movements, actions and dance to compliment the songs and to make our performances entertaining and spectacular. Here are some Grade Two students working on making ocean waves for ‘My Island Home’ by Christine Anu.
Students worked with Jen to create their own library bags and design personalised drawings for them. The students were highly engaged throughout the activity and showed great creativity and pride in their work. They loved having the opportunity to design something unique that they could use at school, and the session encouraged creativity, confidence, and positive social interaction.

We are looking forward to having the Next Athletics program back at Beveridge PS this term! The Term two program will start Wednesday, 29 April. Further details in the flyer attached.
