Term 2 - Week 6

Principal's Message

Dear Families,

It has been another busy and exciting week across the campuses at Beveridge Primary School.

Special Persons Day
It was wonderful to welcome so many special people to both campuses on Wednesday for our very first Special Persons Day celebration. Students were incredibly proud to share their classrooms, learning, and what they love most about our school. It was fantastic to see families and special visitors engaging with our school community, and we are already looking forward to making this a special annual event.

Reconciliation Week
This week we acknowledge and celebrate National Reconciliation Week. Reconciliation Week is an important opportunity for all Australians to learn about and recognise the histories, cultures, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Throughout the week, students have participated in a range of classroom activities designed to deepen their understanding of First Nations cultures and perspectives.

Teacher Professional Practice Day
Today our teachers used the student free day to focus on collaborative planning, moderation, data analysis, and professional learning. These days provide valuable opportunities for staff to work together to strengthen teaching practices and continue improving learning outcomes for all students.

Foundation 2027 Enrolments
We continue to welcome many prospective students and families on school tours at the Junior Campus as families begin preparing for Foundation in 2027. If you have a child starting school in 2027, please ensure enrolment forms are submitted online by Friday 31 July.

All 2027 foundation enrolments must be submitted via https://students.educationapps.vic.gov.au/s/

We would also like to wish all of our Grade 4–6 students the very best of luck for tomorrow’s District Cross Country event. We know you will represent our school with pride and enthusiasm — enjoy the day!

Mid Year Reports

Mid Year Reports

We will be providing student achievement reports for Semester 1 this year as usual.

The reports will be distributed in the last week of term 2.

The reports will continue to provide important details about student learning attainment, but full descriptive comments may not be included as a result of industrial action taken earlier this term by the Australian Education Union.

We will of course be pleased to discuss with you your child’s progress at our next parent-teacher interviews scheduled for Wednesday 22nd July, or, as always, you can contact your child’s teacher through Compass to arrange a meeting.

Special Persons Morning

What a magnificent day we had celebrating special people in our students' lives.

We opened up our classrooms, including our specialist classes (which included Visual Art, P.E, Stem, Performance and Auslan) and our students had a wonderful time sharing their learning with their visitors.

Rooms were buzzing with the chatter and the sharing of all things to do with learning at BPS.

It was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.

Below are just a sample of some of the today's activities. More photos in the coming weeks.

Importance of Good Attendance

Foundation Team 2

In English, we have been learning new letter sounds. This week, we learnt j, w, and z, while also revising previously taught sounds k, l, r, and u. Students have been using these sounds to read and write simple CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words. We have also been practising writing sentences using capital letters, full stops, and finger spaces correctly.

In Maths, we have been learning to partition numbers up to 10. Students have been exploring how many more are needed to make numbers, such as: “5 and how many more makes 10?” or “4 and how many more makes 6?” We have also been using positional language to give verbal directions, including left, right, forwards, and backwards.

Last week in Inquiry, we finished out learning about the Properties of Materials by building houses for the “Big Bad Wolf/Teacher” to try and blow over. There was lots of teamwork, problem solving, creativity and excitement as students discovered which materials were stronger, lighter or easier to build with. This week we started our learning about How Things Move. Students will identify moving and non-moving objects and conduct investigations into how objects move.

In Wellbeing, we are continuing to learn about the Zones of Regulation and regularly checking in with students to help them identify and talk about how they are feeling. We are also having important conversations about how we can positively cope with our emotions.

We also enjoyed having our Special Person’s Morning this week. Thank you to all the wonderful special people in our lives who were able to attend and spend the morning with us.

Grade 4

Grade 4 Newsletter

What an exciting and busy few weeks it has been in Grade 4! Students have continued to show enthusiasm, teamwork, and a positive attitude across all areas of school life. It has been wonderful to see students getting involved in new opportunities, supporting one another, and proudly representing our school.

Chess Club

Chess Club has quickly become a favourite for many of our Grade 4 students! Each week, students have been eagerly attending lunchtime sessions, excited to challenge their friends, learn new strategies, and improve their chess skills. It has been fantastic watching students think critically, plan ahead, and show resilience during games especially when their opponent suddenly takes their queen! Students have loved the competitive side of Chess Club while also learning the importance of patience, sportsmanship, and problem-solving. The excitement around Chess Club has continued to grow each week, with many students even practising and discussing strategies outside of club time. We are incredibly proud of the positive attitude and enthusiasm students have brought to the program.

Special Persons Morning

Our Special Persons Morning was such a special and memorable event for our Grade 4 students. Students were incredibly excited to welcome parents, grandparents, carers, and other special people into the classroom to share part of their learning journey. The morning was filled with smiles, laughter, conversations, and lots of excitement as students proudly showed off their work, classroom environment, and completed fun activities together. One of the highlights was definitely the “Would You Rather?” activities, which sparked plenty of funny discussions and some very passionate debates! It was wonderful to see students so proud and excited to share their classroom with the important people in their lives. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the morning so special.

Cross Country

A big congratulations to all students who participated in Cross Country. We were so proud of the determination, resilience, and encouragement students showed throughout the event. It was fantastic seeing students challenge themselves, cheer each other on, and represent Grade 4 so positively. We would also like to wish the students who are progressing to District Cross Country this Friday the very best of luck! We know you will represent our school with pride and give it your all. Good luck!

Thank you again for your ongoing support throughout the term. We are so proud of the growth, effort, and positivity our Grade 4 students continue to show each day.

Arrowsmith Art

JUNGLE PIECES

During Term 2, both Foundation and Grade 1 students have been looking at the work of Henri Rousseau.  They started with a drawing of 2 types of tigers in the jungle. As we progressed through the term, the basic drawing of their tiger has transformed to a collage, by way of adding paper of all different shapes and dimensions to their work.  We truly do have some amazing artists at BPS.
