Term 2 - Week 8

Principal's Message

Dear Families,

I hope everyone enjoyed the shorter week following last weekend's long weekend and had the opportunity to spend some quality time with family and friends. Although it has only been a four-day week, there has been so much happening across both campuses.

Foundation 2027

On Tuesday morning, we welcomed another group of prospective families to our Junior Campus for a school tour as they begin planning for their child's start to school in 2027. It was wonderful to showcase our learning spaces, programs, and school community.

If you have a child commencing Foundation in 2027, please ensure that your enrolment application is submitted by the enrolment deadline of Friday 31 July.

Campus Assemblies next Monday

We have our third and final campus assemblies for the term coming up next Monday at 9:10am at Ambrosia campus and 2:40pm at the Arrowsmith campus. All families are invited to attend.

Mobile Phone Policy - Reminder

A reminder that the Department of Education has in place a mobile phone ban that requires students who bring mobiles phones to school to have them switched off and securely put away during school hours. The ban applies equally to all government schools right across the state.

At BPS students who choose to bring mobile phones to school must have them switched off and securely stored at the Office during school hours. Students are required to sign in their device in the morning and sign them out at the end of the day.

We are strictly enforcing this procedure and have reminded our senior students of this policy this week. I ask for the support of all our families, staff and students in continuing to support the implementation of this policy in our school.

Take care,

Christine Cole

Principal

Wellbeing Weekly News

Learning how to solve social conflicts peacefully is an important part of growing strong friendships and positive relationships. At school and at home, children will sometimes experience disagreements, misunderstandings, or hurt feelings. These moments can become valuable opportunities to build empathy, communication, and problem-solving skills. By staying calm, listening carefully, using respectful words, and working together to find fair solutions, children learn skills that support their wellbeing now and into the future. Families play a big role by modelling kindness, guiding conversations, and encouraging children to keep trying when challenges arise.

Foundation Team 1

Foundation 1 Update

English
Our reading fluency is continuing to develop well, with some students already reading whole sentences independently. We have been practising writing CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words such as cat, dog and sun. Students have also begun writing dictated sentences, focusing on using capital letters, full stops, finger spaces and sounding out words carefully. It has been wonderful to see students applying their growing sound knowledge to write letters and words independently.

Mathematics
In Maths, we have been exploring different ways to partition numbers up to 10. Students have also been sorting collections of objects based on different attributes, including colour, shape and the type of object. These activities help build important mathematical thinking and classification skills.

Inquiry
Our Inquiry learning has focused on how things move. Students have investigated whether objects roll, slide or can do both. We have enjoyed making predictions, testing different objects and discussing our findings.

Wellbeing
In Wellbeing, we have continued learning about the Zones of Regulation. Students have been exploring a variety of breathing techniques and strategies that can help them regulate their emotions and return to the Green Zone, where they are ready to learn and engage positively with others.

We are very proud of the progress all students are making!

Grade 3

This term, Grade 3 students have been engaged in an exciting literacy and inquiry project focused on endangered animals. To launch our learning, students participated in a Wild Action Zoo excursion, where they had the opportunity to see and learn about a variety of animals up close. The excursion sparked curiosity and provided valuable background knowledge that students drew upon throughout the project.

Students selected an endangered animal to research and explored a range of topics, including its appearance, diet, habitat, threats, and conservation efforts. Using their research, students practised identifying key information and transforming it into informative non-fiction writing in their own words. Throughout the project, students developed their research, note-taking, and writing skills while learning about the importance of protecting endangered species around the world.

To bring their learning to life, students also designed and created a habitat diorama that represented the natural environment of their chosen animal. They carefully considered the features their animal needs to survive and included these details in their models. It has been wonderful to see students demonstrate such creativity, persistence, and pride in their work. We are incredibly proud of the effort and enthusiasm they have shown throughout this project and look forward to sharing their final presentations and dioramas.

Grade 5

It has been another busy and exciting week in Year 5! In Mathematics, students have been tackling fractions, building their confidence in comparing and ordering fractions and converting between improper fractions and mixed numerals. They have also been putting their problem-solving skills to the test while exploring perimeter and calculating the distance around a range of regular and irregular shapes.

In Writing, our budding authors have been sharpening their persuasive writing skills. Students have been learning how to create convincing arguments, use persuasive language techniques, and support their opinions with strong evidence. We have enjoyed some lively discussions as students shared and defended their ideas.

In Humanities, students have stepped into the world of Australian democracy. We have been exploring what it means to live in a representative democracy, why voting is important, and how Australians elect representatives to make decisions on behalf of the community. It has been fantastic to see students making real-world connections and developing their understanding of their role as future citizens.

AUSLAN at Arrowsmith

Art at Ambrosia

Visual Art  Term 2: Week 8

Our Grade 3 students explored the concept of three-dimensional artwork. They used Japanese koi fish prints as inspiration to create their own kite designs. Students included the art elements of line, shape and colour and added texture to the scales with oil pastel and patterns. They produced a wax resist effect by layering watercolour paint to the designs.

Our Grade 5 students explored Australian animal-themed artworks. Students used this as inspiration to create a painted native flora and fauna design of their own. They selected items from new and recycled art materials to use as tools to produce dots of colour and build textural patterned effects. Students considered the element of space in the design and thoughtfully arranged features across the page to balance positive and negative areas.
