Dear Families,

It’s hard to believe we have reached Week 9 and are almost at the end of Term 3! It has certainly been another busy week, with lots to celebrate.

Grade 6 Camp

Our Grade 6 students recently returned from a fantastic three days at Alexandra Adventure Resort. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to challenge themselves, build independence, strengthen friendships and create some lasting memories.

A huge congratulations to all of our Grade 6 students for the way they participated and represented our school. Thank you also to our staff and volunteers for their exceptional effort in making the camp such a positive experience for everyone involved.

District & Division Athletics

A huge effort from our students who have represented Beveridge Primary School at both District and Division Athletics over the past week. Congratulations to everyone who competed and represented our school with such pride!

Celebrating Student Achievement

Congratulations to all of our students who received certificates and awards at our campus assemblies this week. It was also wonderful to see students performing and sharing some of their learning from throughout the term.

Footy/Sports Colours Day

To finish Term 3 with a bit of fun, our Student Leadership Team has organised a Footy/Sports Colours Day for Friday 18 September – the last day of term.

All students and staff are encouraged to wear the colours, clothing or merchandise of their favourite footy or sporting team. Whether it’s AFL, soccer, basketball, rugby or another favourite sport, we’re looking forward to seeing plenty of team colours across both campuses!

Bushfire Safety

Fire danger ratings indicate how dangerous a fire would be if one started in those conditions and provide clear direction on the safest options for preserving life. They can be a trigger for action in the community and for school and household level fire plans.

Schools and children’s services listed on the Department of Education and Training’s Bushfire At-Risk Register (BARR) and those at some lower risk of bushfire or grassfire on the Category 4 list will be closed when a Catastrophic fire danger rating day is forecast in their Bureau of Meteorology district. 

Our school has been identified as being one of these schools at high bushfire or grassfire risk, and is listed as a Category 4 school.

Our school will close on a day forecasted as Catastrophic fire danger rating in North Central fire district.

The Department will advise our school of the potential for a Catastrophic fire danger rating as information becomes available, however the pre-emptive closure will be confirmed the day prior to Catastrophic fire danger day.

Fire danger ratings are forecast by the Bureau of Meteorology up to four days in advance. Should a Catastrophic day be forecast, we will notify you of the potential school closure via Compass and hard copy letter on the day prior and we will provide you with advice before the end of the school day.

Once confirmed, the decision to close will not change, regardless of improvements in the weather forecast. This is to avoid confusion and help your family plan alternative care arrangements for your child. It is also important to note that:

• No staff will be on site on days where the school is closed due to a forecast Catastrophic day.
• Out-of-school-hours care will also be cancelled on these days.
• School camps will be cancelled if a Catastrophic fire danger rating day is forecast for the Bureau of Meteorology district in which the camp is located, or if the travel involves passing through areas that have Catastrophic fire danger.
• All bus routes that travel through the Catastrophic area will be cancelled.

Families are encouraged to enact their Bushfire Survival Plan on Catastrophic fire danger rating days. On such days, children should never be left at home alone or in the care of older children.

For those of us living in a bushfire prone area, the Country Fire Authority (CFA) advises that when Catastrophic days are forecast, the safest option is to leave the night before or early on the morning of the Catastrophic day.

As part of preparing our school for potential hazards such as fire, we have updated and completed our Emergency Management Plan.

 Foundation 1 Learning Update

English 
In English, we have been learning how to retell stories by identifying the beginning, middle and end. Students have also been creating their own animal characters and describing what their character likes to do, as well as their character traits. We have been continuing to build our writing skills through dictation, and the students are doing a fantastic job applying their sounds and writing complete sentences.

Maths 
In Maths, we have been learning about subtraction with numbers up to 10, using hands-on materials and visual strategies to help us solve problems. We have also been exploring Australian coins, learning to recognise and identify different coins. Our measurement learning has focused on mass, comparing objects to determine which are heavier and lighter.

Inquiry 
In Inquiry, we have been learning about special places in Indigenous cultures and exploring why particular places are important and significant.

Wellbeing 
During Wellbeing, we have been learning strategies to help us recognise how we are feeling and use tools to help us return to the Green Zone. We have been using the Stop, Opt, Go strategy to help us make positive choices and manage different situations.

Digital Technologies 
In Digital Technologies, we have been exploring algorithms and learning how to give and follow clear, step-by-step instructions. We are building these skills in preparation for using our Bee-Bots and putting our algorithms into action!

We are all looking forward to another visit to the ‘BIG’ campus next week for our School Production!

This term, our Foundation students have been having lots of fun exploring balance, coordination and movement through our balancing program.

The students have enjoyed challenging themselves in a variety of ways as they develop their confidence, body awareness and gross motor skills. Each activity has provided opportunities for the children to practise controlling their movements, maintaining stability and learning how their bodies can move in different ways.

Throughout the program, the students have been using a range of exciting equipment, including the walking beam, balancing bugs and rocking beetles. The walking beam has encouraged students to carefully place one foot in front of the other while maintaining their balance. The balancing bugs have provided a fun challenge as students navigate across and around the equipment, while the rocking beetles have allowed them to explore shifting their weight and finding their centre of balance.

Grade 4 Newsletter

It has been another exciting and busy few weeks in Grade 4, with students working hard on their learning while also enjoying some special Book Week celebrations!

✏️ Persuasive Writing

In English, our Grade 4 students have been working incredibly hard on their persuasive writing. Using our class text Off We Go Around Australia as inspiration, students have been developing persuasive pieces encouraging people to visit Australia.

Throughout the unit, students have learned how to structure a persuasive text with a strong introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion. They have been focusing on including clear reasons supported by evidence and using persuasive devices such as high-modality language, emotive language, imperative verbs, descriptive language and powerful vocabulary.

It has been fantastic to see students become more confident writers and begin using these techniques independently. We are very proud of the effort they have put into planning, drafting, editing and improving their persuasive pieces!

 Book Week Celebrations

Grade 4 had an amazing time celebrating Book Week! It was wonderful to see so many students arrive dressed as their favourite book characters and proudly show off their creative costumes.

For our Book Week celebration, each Grade 4 student was paired with a Grade 1 buddy to spend the day with. The students participated in a range of fun activities together, giving our Grade 4s the opportunity to be fantastic role models for the younger students.

It was wonderful to see the Grade 4 students showing kindness, patience, responsibility and Togetherness as they supported their Grade 1 buddies throughout the day. There were plenty of smiles, laughs and memorable moments!

A huge thank you to all of our families for helping organise the wonderful costumes and supporting another fantastic Book Week celebration.

 Important Dates & Reminders

As we quickly approach the end of another busy term, please keep these important dates in mind:

 School Concert – Wednesday 16th September
We are very excited for our upcoming School Concert! The students have been working hard in preparation, and we cannot wait for families to see them perform.

 Footy Colours Day & Last Day of Term – Friday 18th September
Friday 18th September is our last day of Term 3 and Footy Colours Day! Students are encouraged to come dressed in the colours of their favourite sporting team and join in the end-of-term fun.

Please also remember that school will finish early at 2:30 pm on the final day of term.

We are incredibly proud of everything our Grade 4 students have achieved throughout the term and look forward to celebrating a fantastic final week together.

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 17 August to Friday 18 September 2026.

All families are invited to participate in the survey.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.

The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents / caregivers / guardians who speak a language other than English at home. Please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school directly for survey guides in your language.

The survey results will be communicated to parents / caregivers / guardians through annual reporting once results become available to us. Last year we used the survey results to plan for the following year.
