Dear Families,
Welcome back to Term 4!
It is hard to believe how quickly the school year is passing by. I hope all of our students and families enjoyed a relaxing two-week break and are feeling refreshed and ready for another busy term of learning, growth and exciting events.
A very warm welcome to the new students and families joining BPS this term. We hope you quickly feel part of our school community and look forward to getting to know you.
Somers Camp
This week, 30 of our Grade 5 and 6 students, along with one of our teachers, headed off for their nine-day Somers School Camp adventure. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to develop their independence, resilience and confidence while enjoying a wide range of new experiences. We hope they have an amazing time and look forward to hearing all about their adventures when they return!
Upcoming Sport
We also have some exciting sporting events coming up. Next Wednesday, a number of our students will represent Beveridge Primary School at Regional Athletics after progressing through the previous stages of competition.
Our Grade 6 Girls Basketball Team will also be heading off to compete at the next level of competition. We wish all of our students the very best and know they will represent Beveridge PS with pride.
First Aid and CPR Training
This week, and next, our staff are undertaking their First Aid and CPR training after school. This ensures that we have all staff trained in up-to-date processes and procedures, and therefore can respond to any incidents and/or emergencies promptly.
School Hats
A reminder that all students must bring and wear their school hat during recess and lunch time play breaks during term 4. We do have hats for sale at both campuses if you need to purchase one. If parents are unable to attend the office to purchase a hat, you are welcome to ring through to purchase one over the phone. Hats are $15 each.
We do follow a No Hat, No Play rule and students will be required to stay indoors and/or in shaded spaces if they do not have their hat.
I hope it has been a wonderful first week back for all.
Enjoy the sunshine,
Christine Cole
Principal
Dear Families,
With the new Coles now open across the road from the school, we have noticed an increasing number of students visiting the store before school without parent/carer supervision. Some students are purchasing items such as soft drinks, energy drinks, lollies and other high-sugar foods and bringing these items onto school grounds.
We ask parents and carers to please be aware of where your child is going before school and whether they are visiting Coles unsupervised. We encourage families to have conversations with their children about going directly to school and making safe and responsible choices before the school day begins.
We also ask families to be mindful of the amount of money students are bringing to school and, where money is provided, to discuss with your child what it is intended to be used for. Please reinforce that soft drinks, energy drinks, large quantities of lollies and other inappropriate food items should not be purchased before school and brought onto school grounds.
Energy drinks are not permitted at Beveridge Primary School. These drinks contain high levels of caffeine and other stimulants and are not suitable for primary school-aged children. Any energy drinks brought onto school grounds will be confiscated from students and disposed of.
We have also become aware of students sharing, swapping or attempting to sell food and drinks to other students. This is not permitted at school and creates additional concerns regarding student health, safety and wellbeing.
We appreciate your support in reinforcing these expectations with your children and ensuring they arrive at school safely, ready to learn and prepared for a positive day.
Thank you for your ongoing cooperation and support.
We would like to remind all families to park safely, legally and considerately when dropping off and collecting students from our Ambrosia Campus, particularly along Ambrosia Way, Foundry Circuit and Easy Road.
With increasing traffic around the school, including the recent opening of Coles, it is important that we work together to keep our surrounding streets safe for students, families and local residents.
Please remember:
We understand that parking around the school can be challenging, particularly during busy drop-off and pick-up times. However, student safety must always remain our priority.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and respectful school community.

We have had such a wonderful start to Term 4! We hope everyone had a safe and relaxing break.
English
In English, we have been learning how to read and write CVCCC words such as bumps, tents and winks. Students have been applying their phonics knowledge to segment and blend sounds when reading and writing these more complex words. We have also started learning about the difference between fiction and non-fiction texts, exploring the features of non-fiction books and identifying how they help readers learn information about a topic.
Maths
In Maths, we have been learning about sharing numbers into equal groups and developing our understanding of what makes a group equal. We have also been exploring capacity, using language such as full, half full, empty, large capacity and small capacity to describe and compare different containers. To bring our learning to life, we even had the opportunity to investigate capacity in the sandpit, using a variety of containers to compare how much they could hold and applying our new vocabulary in a real-world context.
Inquiry
In Inquiry, we have started our new unit on Living Things. Students have been exploring the external features of animals and learning how these features help animals survive and grow. We have been building our scientific vocabulary by learning words such as animal, body parts, features, fur, scales, skin, feathers, reptile, mammal, amphibian, fish and bird.
Wellbeing
During Wellbeing, we have been revisiting our school values and our SWPBS matrix to strengthen our understanding of positive behaviours at school. We have also revised the difference between expected and unexpected behaviours and discussed how our choices can help create a safe, respectful and supportive learning environment for everyone.
Welcome back to Term 4! We hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday break. We have an exciting term ahead, with lots of engaging learning experiences across all curriculum areas.
Last term, in Design Technology, the students designed and built a sustainable school environment, showcasing some of the concepts that they had learnt about during the term, as part of design and technology. Students were then asked to write a short explanation about their design and how it contributed to creating less waste, saving water and using clean renewable energy. Each class had the opportunity to visit and view the different designs built by other grade 5 students during the last week of the school term.
As part of their Inquiry unit on how animals adapt to the Australian environment, students learnt about how different physical and behavioural adaptations enable their chosen animal to survive. A visit from Wild Action enabled students to learn and observe in real life the specific features of different Australian animals such as turtles and frogs. Students worked in small groups to research their chosen animal, write information based on a select criteria and create a poster, highlighting the specific features of their animal.
In Literacy, students have been developing their research and informative writing skills. They selected a topic, gathered relevant information using a range of resources, and organised their ideas into clear paragraphs. Students then wrote an information report using headings, factual language and topic-specific vocabulary. They also focused on writing strong topic sentences, including supporting details, and adding illustrations and visual features to help make their reports interesting and easy for their readers to understand.
Students have had a fun and active start to Term 4 during PE lessons at Ambrosia.
Grade 2 students recently completed a unit on dodging where they applied the fundamental movement skill to a variety in modified invasion and evasion games. They will now move on to a unit on the forehand strike and fundamental Tennis skills.
Grade 3 students recently completed a racquet sports unit where they applied the forehand and backhand strikes to modified Tennis games. This week they started a unit on Golf.
Grade 4 students learnt a variety of new skills in a unit focused on Volleyball to end Term 3. They have now moved on to a Flag Football unit where they will apply overarm throwing and dodging skills.
Grade 5 students practised striking and fielding in the context of T-Ball at the end of Term 3. They have now started a Soccer unit, in preparation for interschool sports in Grade 6.
Finally, Grade 6 students are continuing their Bike Ed course where they have been learning how to ride bikes safely and responsibly on the road. They are now looking forward to their group road ride, where they will apply their learning on local roads around Beveridge.
