Term 4 - Week 3

Principal's Message

Dear Families,

It has been another busy and exciting week at BPS, with plenty of opportunities for our students to celebrate their achievements, develop their leadership skills and enjoy new experiences.

Campus Assemblies

On Monday, we held our first campus assemblies for Term 4. Congratulations to all students who received an award in recognition of their hard work, positive attitudes and demonstration of our school values. A special congratulations also goes to our winning House for their outstanding efforts in earning House Points over the first three weeks of term.

Grade 2 & 3 Disco

On Wednesday evening, our Grade 2 and 3 students enjoyed their school disco in the gym! It was fantastic to see so many students having fun, dancing with their friends and enjoying a wonderful evening together. A big thank you to the staff who helped organise and supervise the event, making it such an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Gnarly Neighbours Skateboarding Incursion

Our Grade 3 and 4 students have continued participating in the Gnarly Neighbours skateboarding program this week. This exciting incursion provides students with opportunities to develop their balance, coordination, confidence and resilience as they learn new skills and challenge themselves. It has been great to see students embracing the experience, encouraging one another and demonstrating persistence when trying something new. We look forward to the remaining sessions over the coming weeks.

Young Leaders Excursion

On Wednesday, our Senior Campus student leaders attended their final Young Leaders learning day at Wallan Secondary College. This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to connect and collaborate with student leaders from primary schools across our network.

Throughout the day, students continued developing their leadership knowledge and skills, exploring what it means to be an effective and inspiring leader. We are incredibly proud of the way our student leaders have represented Beveridge Primary School throughout the year and look forward to seeing them continue to put their learning into practice during their final term.

2027 Planning & Preparation

As we look ahead to the 2027 school year, our priority remains clear: ensuring every student enters a classroom where they are supported by strong leadership, excellent teachers and the resources they need to thrive.

With Beveridge Primary School continuing to grow, we are actively planning for the staffing, leadership structures and learning environments required to support our students next year. This includes recruiting and appointing new school leaders and teachers to join our dedicated BPS team.

A significant amount of work takes place behind the scenes during Term 4 as we prepare for the following school year. Our focus is on building strong teaching teams, providing consistency in learning and wellbeing practices, and ensuring we are well positioned to continue delivering high-quality education across both campuses.

Take care,

Christine Cole

Principal

Digital Safety

Let’s Talk About Digital Safety

Technology is an important part of our students’ lives. It helps them learn, connect with others and explore new ideas. As parents and carers, one of the most important things we can do is help children develop safe and responsible online habits.

A great starting point is having regular conversations about what children are doing online. Ask them about the games they play, the videos they watch and who they interact with. Creating an environment where children feel comfortable sharing their online experiences can make a real difference.

Some simple ways to support digital safety at home include:

  • Keeping devices in shared family spaces where possible.
  • Using age-appropriate privacy and parental control settings.
  • Encouraging regular breaks from screens.
  • Talking about respectful online behaviour and digital footprints.
  • Discussing what to do if something online makes them feel uncomfortable or worried.

Remember, digital safety is not just about restricting access. It is about teaching children the skills they need to make safe, informed and responsible choices online.

For more information and practical advice, visit the eSafety Commissioner website: www.esafety.gov.au

By working together, we can help our students become confident, responsible and safe digital citizens.

Healthy Habits

As we settle into the final term, maintaining healthy habits can make a big difference to our children’s learning and wellbeing. Regular sleep, nutritious meals and plenty of outdoor play help children feel energised, stay focused and manage their emotions. By keeping simple, consistent routines at home, we can work together to help our students finish the year feeling happy, healthy and ready to learn!

Dashain Festival

Celebrating Dashain – 11 to 25 October 2026

We would like to extend our warmest wishes to all members of our school community celebrating Dashain, taking place from Sunday 11 October to Sunday 25 October 2026, with the main celebration of Vijaya Dashami on Wednesday 21 October.

Dashain is an important festival celebrated by many families, particularly within the Nepalese community. It is a time for family gatherings, gratitude, blessings and cultural traditions, symbolising the triumph of good over evil.

At Beveridge Primary School, we are proud of our diverse and multicultural community and value the many cultures, traditions and celebrations that make our school such a special place.

To all our families celebrating Dashain, we wish you and your loved ones happiness, peace, prosperity and a wonderful time together!

Foundation Team 1

Foundation 1 Team Update

English: This week, we began learning about digraphs, exploring how two letters can work together to make one sound, such as sh. We also explored the differences between fiction and non-fiction texts. In writing, students have been labelling animals and writing non-fiction sentences to share facts about their features and characteristics. We are so proud of some of our wonderful, brave students who spoke so confidently at assembly to share their learning with the school community!

Maths: We have been exploring capacity, learning to identify when containers are full, half full and empty. Students enjoyed taking their learning outside to the sandpit, where they compared different containers and investigated how much they could hold. We also explored sharing equally between two and three groups, including situations where there was one leftover.

Inquiry: We have been learning about Australian animals and exploring their different features. Students have been discovering what makes each animal unique, including their physical characteristics and how these help them in their environments.

Wellbeing: We have been discussing gender norms and challenging stereotypes about what boys and girls can like, do and enjoy. Students explored the idea that everyone is different and that boys and girls can enjoy the same or different activities, have the same or different interests and follow their own passions. We are continuing to build a classroom community where everyone feels valued, included and confident to be themselves.

Grade 2

It has been a busy and exciting first three weeks of Term 3 for our Year 2 students! Our Year 2/3 disco on Wednesday was a fun night, with plenty of impressive dance moves on show. It was lovely to see students enjoying themselves and having fun with their friends!

In writing, we have been exploring persuasive texts through fun “Would You Rather?” topics. Students have been learning to clearly state their opinions and explain their choices using reasons and examples. We have been practising using words such as “because” to build on our ideas and persuade others to agree with us. These discussions have also been a wonderful opportunity to listen to different viewpoints and respectfully share our thinking. We were proud to share some of our persuasive writing at assembly on Monday!

In Inquiry, we have been learning about Earth’s natural resources and how we use them in everyday life. A highlight was making ice cream as we explored where its ingredients come from. This hands-on activity helped students understand that “everything comes from something” and make connections between everyday items and the natural resources they come from.

Grade 6

Grade 6 Term 4 Week 3 Newsletter

Arrowsmith Visit

As part of our Grade 6 leadership journey, students had the wonderful opportunity to strengthen their connections with our wider school community through visits to the Arrowsmith Campus. The Grade 6 students supported our Foundation and Grade 1 students by assisting with classroom learning, leading engaging activities and building positive relationships with our younger students. This fantastic initiative provided our Grade 6 students with the opportunity to demonstrate leadership, responsibility, kindness and teamwork, while acting as positive role models for our junior students. It was wonderful to see our senior students embrace this rewarding experience and make a meaningful contribution to our school community!

English

In English, students have been thoroughly engaged in reading our class novel, Once by Morris Gleitzman. Through this powerful story, students have been exploring important themes of friendship, courage, resilience and hope, while developing their reading comprehension and understanding of historical events.

Alongside our novel study, students have been strengthening their writing skills by exploring how conjunctions can be used to connect ideas and create more detailed and complex sentences. Students have also been developing their note-taking skills, learning how to identify key information, summarise important ideas and organise their notes effectively to support their learning across different curriculum areas.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, students have been developing their ability to apply a range of mental calculation strategies to solve mathematical problems efficiently and accurately. Through explicit teaching and problem-solving activities, students have been encouraged to select appropriate strategies, explain their mathematical thinking and build confidence when working with numbers.

Students have also been consolidating their understanding of probability and chance through an engaging rich learning task involving opaque bags and coloured counters. Throughout this investigation, students explored the likelihood of different outcomes, made predictions and conducted experiments to compare theoretical and experimental probabilities. This hands-on activity provided a fantastic opportunity for students to apply their mathematical reasoning and deepen their understanding of chance in a practical and meaningful way.

Inquiry: Earth and Space Sciences

In Inquiry, Grade 6 students have begun an exciting new unit titled ‘When Planets Move’, exploring the fascinating world of Earth and Space Sciences. Throughout the unit, students will investigate our solar system, including how the Sun's gravity keeps planets in orbit and how Earth's rotation, revolution and tilt influence natural phenomena such as day and night, changing seasons and variations in daylight.

Through hands-on investigations, scientific models and interactive simulations, students will explore the relationships between the Sun, Earth and other planets. They will also investigate how First Nations Peoples of Australia have used astronomical knowledge for timekeeping and how scientists from around the world have collaborated to advance space exploration, including research conducted aboard the International Space Station. This engaging unit will encourage students to develop their scientific reasoning, curiosity and research skills while deepening their understanding of our place in the universe.

Arrowsmith PE

Grade 1 Sports – Tennis Program

Our Grade 1 students have been developing their tennis skills through a range of fun, engaging and age-appropriate activities! The program focuses on building confidence, coordination and fundamental movement skills while introducing students to the exciting game of tennis.

Ball Skills
Students have been practising their hand-eye coordination through activities such as throwing, catching, bouncing and controlling a ball. These activities help develop tracking skills, timing and body awareness, which are important foundations for playing tennis.

Racquet Grip
We have introduced students to how to hold a tennis racquet correctly and comfortably. Students have been exploring how to control the racquet, keep a steady grip and use it to tap and guide the ball.

Basic Tennis Skills
Students have been learning the fundamental skills of tennis, including tapping a ball upwards, bouncing it on the racquet, striking a stationary ball and practising simple forehand shots. Through fun games and skill-building activities, they are developing control, coordination and confidence while learning to enjoy the game.

Grade 6 Buddy Program
A highlight of the program has been our Grade 6 buddy sessions! Our older students have been supporting their Grade 1 buddies by demonstrating skills, offering encouragement and helping them participate in activities.
