Term 4 - Week 4

Principal's Message

Dear Families,

As we reach the end of Week 4, it is hard to believe we are already approaching the halfway point of Term 4! It has been another busy week at Beveridge Primary School, with plenty happening across both campuses.

World Teachers' Day

Tomorrow, we celebrate World Teachers' Day across both our campuses. This is a wonderful opportunity to recognise and thank our incredible teachers for the dedication, care and commitment they demonstrate each and every day.

We are very fortunate to have such a passionate and hardworking team of teachers at Beveridge Primary School who consistently go above and beyond to support the learning, wellbeing and growth of our students. Teaching is an incredibly rewarding profession, but it also comes with its challenges, and I am extremely grateful for the effort our teachers put into making our school such a positive place to learn.

A big thank you to all our wonderful teachers for everything you do!

Shine a Light Road Safety Forum

On Tuesday evening, we hosted the Shine a Light Road Safety Forum at our Ambrosia Campus, bringing together community members to raise awareness of road safety in Beveridge.

It was fantastic to have representatives from Victoria Police, Mitchell Shire Council and Amber Community join us to share important information and engage in discussions about road safety within our growing community.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to these important conversations. Road safety continues to be a priority for our school community, particularly as Beveridge continues to grow.

Foundation 2027 Transition Visits

Our first Foundation 2027 Transition Session will take place on Friday 6 November. During this visit, our incoming Foundation students will spend an hour in the classroom, meeting staff, playing alongside other children and beginning to learn about the routines and expectations of school.

2027 Student Placement and Class Planning

Planning for the 2027 school year is well underway, and we are currently working through the important process of organising classes and student placements for next year.

To assist us with this planning, we kindly ask that families notify the school via email if their child will NOT be attending Beveridge Primary School in 2027.

Having accurate enrolment information helps us plan our staffing, class structures and resources to ensure the best possible learning environments for all students.

Thank you for your assistance and support as we prepare for another exciting year ahead.

Reminder – Long Weekend

A reminder to all families that there will be no school for students on Monday 2 November or Tuesday 3 November.

  • Monday 2 November: Report Writing Day – Student Free Day
  • Tuesday 3 November: Melbourne Cup Public Holiday

Please note that TeamKids will be operating a vacation care program on Monday only.

I hope all our students, staff and families enjoy the opportunity for a well-deserved four-day break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Wednesday 4 November.

Take care,

Christine Cole
Principal

Celebrating Our Incredible Education Support Team!

We are incredibly proud to share that Beveridge Primary School was named a finalist in the Victorian Education Excellence Awards (VEEA) – Outstanding Education Support Team Award!

While we didn't take home the award this year, being recognised as a finalist is an outstanding achievement and a wonderful acknowledgement of the dedication, passion and hard work of our amazing Education Support Team.

Our ES staff play such an important role in our school community, going above and beyond every day to support the learning, wellbeing and inclusion of our students. Their commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of our students is something we are extremely proud of!

On Friday evening, our school representatives had the pleasure of attending the Victorian Education Excellence Awards ceremony at Melbourne Museum, celebrating the incredible achievements of educators and schools from across Victoria.

A huge congratulations to our wonderful ES Team! We are so fortunate to have you as part of the Beveridge Primary School community.

You may not have taken home the trophy, but you're certainly winners in our eyes!

Grade 1 Team 1

This term the Year 1 students are learning about what is up in the sky. They have learned about the planets, stars, the sun and the moon. Did you know that the tides are caused by the moon? Shadows are made by objects blocking light and outside shadows are caused by something blocking the sun’s light. The students completed an experiment outside and recorded their shadows in the morning, at noon and in the afternoon. Unfortunately, it was very cloudy in the afternoon, so it was difficult to see our shadows. We are going to try again another day.

Grade 3

Grade 3 is getting ready for some exciting science adventures!

We are looking forward to our visit to Science works, where students will have the opportunity to explore, investigate and discover how science works in the world around us.

Back in the classroom, we will be putting our scientific knowledge to the test by designing and creating our very own solar ovens! Students will explore how the sun's energy can be used to generate heat while getting creative with their designs.

We need your help! We are asking each student to please bring in an empty shoebox to use for their solar oven project.

We can't wait to see our Grade 3 scientists become inventors and put their learning into action!

Grade 5

English: We are diving deeper into the magical world of The Grandest Bookshop in the World, strengthening our reading and comprehension skills along the way! In Writing, students are bringing their own magical realism stories to life by using figurative language to create vivid descriptions and capture readers' imaginations.

Mathematics: We are taking time to revisit and strengthen our mathematical skills! Students are reviewing key concepts from throughout the year, filling in learning gaps, tackling challenges and building confidence as mathematicians.

Inquiry: It's time to think like scientists! We are exploring the fascinating world of matter, investigating its different states and properties. Through fun, hands-on experiments, students will make predictions, test their ideas and discover science in action!

Arrowsmith Art

To start our term our Grade 1 students have been inspired by the vibrant and expressive artwork of Vincent van Gogh, with a special focus on his famous Sunflowers paintings.

As part of our learning, students have been creating their own sunflower artworks, experimenting with different shades of yellow, orange and green to capture the bright, cheerful feeling of Van Gogh’s flowers.

To make our backgrounds more interesting, students have been exploring patterns, lines, shapes and colours. Rather than leaving the background plain, they are learning how thoughtful choices can help tell a story and make the main subject stand out.

It has been wonderful to see students making creative decisions, trying new ideas and developing their own artistic styles. Their sunflower artworks are already bursting with colour, personality and imagination!

Our Grade 1 artists should be very proud of their achievements, and some of these are on display in our office area at Arrowsmith.

STEM

Over the past four weeks in STEM, students have been exploring healthy eating and learning how different foods support our health and wellbeing. They investigated the roles of healthy fats, vitamins and minerals, carbohydrates, and proteins, and discussed why each is important for a balanced diet.

Students then applied their learning by creating and programming interactive quizzes using Google Slides, combining their knowledge of nutrition with their developing digital technology skills.

As we move towards the end of the year, students will begin learning 3D modelling using the online design program Tinkercad. Each student will have their first design 3D printed, and we will aim to print as many additional designs as possible.

Our Grade 6 STEM students have done an outstanding job embracing the many technologies, challenges and learning experiences explored throughout the year. They should be proud of the creativity, problem-solving skills and knowledge they have developed along the way.

Wallan Secondary Yr 7 Information Night

Bushfire Safety

Bushfire Safety

Fire danger ratings indicate how dangerous a fire would be if one started in those conditions and provide clear direction on the safest options for preserving life. They can be a trigger for action in the community and for school and household level fire plans.

Schools and children’s services listed on the Department of Education and Training’s Bushfire At-Risk Register (BARR) and those at some lower risk of bushfire or grassfire on the Category 4 list will be closed when a Catastrophic fire danger rating day is forecast in their Bureau of Meteorology district.

Our school has been identified as being one of these schools at high bushfire or grassfire risk, and is listed as a Category 4 school.

Our school will close on a day forecasted as Catastrophic fire danger rating in North Central fire district.

The Department will advise our school of the potential for a Catastrophic fire danger rating as information becomes available, however the pre-emptive closure will be confirmed the day prior to Catastrophic fire danger day.

Fire danger ratings are forecast by the Bureau of Meteorology up to four days in advance. Should a Catastrophic day be forecast, we will notify you of the potential school closure via Compass and hard copy letter on the day prior and we will provide you with advice before the end of the school day.

Once confirmed, the decision to close will not change, regardless of improvements in the weather forecast. This is to avoid confusion and help your family plan alternative care arrangements for your child. It is also important to note that:

  • No staff will be on site on days where the school is closed due to a forecast Catastrophic day.
  • Out-of-school-hours care will also be cancelled on these days.
  • School camps will be cancelled if a Catastrophic fire danger rating day is forecast for the Bureau of Meteorology district in which the camp is located, or if the travel involves passing through areas that have Catastrophic fire danger.
  • All bus routes that travel through the Catastrophic area will be cancelled.

Families are encouraged to enact their Bushfire Survival Plan on Catastrophic fire danger rating days. On such days, children should never be left at home alone or in the care of older children.

For those of us living in a bushfire prone area, the Country Fire Authority (CFA) advises that when Catastrophic days are forecast, the safest option is to leave the night before or early on the morning of the Catastrophic day.

As part of preparing our school for potential hazards such as fire, we have updated and completed our Emergency Management Plan.

Karate Classes

We are a small karate school based at Wallan Secondary College.
We meet on Monday nights during each school term.

The next class will be on the 5th of October.
