Bushfire Safety
Fire danger ratings indicate how dangerous a fire would be if one started in those conditions and provide clear direction on the safest options for preserving life. They can be a trigger for action in the community and for school and household level fire plans.
Schools and children’s services listed on the Department of Education and Training’s Bushfire At-Risk Register (BARR) and those at some lower risk of bushfire or grassfire on the Category 4 list will be closed when a Catastrophic fire danger rating day is forecast in their Bureau of Meteorology district.
Our school has been identified as being one of these schools at high bushfire or grassfire risk, and is listed as a Category 4 school.
Our school will close on a day forecasted as Catastrophic fire danger rating in North Central fire district.
The Department will advise our school of the potential for a Catastrophic fire danger rating as information becomes available, however the pre-emptive closure will be confirmed the day prior to Catastrophic fire danger day.
Fire danger ratings are forecast by the Bureau of Meteorology up to four days in advance. Should a Catastrophic day be forecast, we will notify you of the potential school closure via Compass and hard copy letter on the day prior and we will provide you with advice before the end of the school day.
Once confirmed, the decision to close will not change, regardless of improvements in the weather forecast. This is to avoid confusion and help your family plan alternative care arrangements for your child. It is also important to note that:
Families are encouraged to enact their Bushfire Survival Plan on Catastrophic fire danger rating days. On such days, children should never be left at home alone or in the care of older children.
For those of us living in a bushfire prone area, the Country Fire Authority (CFA) advises that when Catastrophic days are forecast, the safest option is to leave the night before or early on the morning of the Catastrophic day.
As part of preparing our school for potential hazards such as fire, we have updated and completed our Emergency Management Plan.
On Friday 20th Sept, the last day of school, our Student Leadership Team has organised a footy day. All students and staff are encouraged to wear their footy or sporting teams’ clothes and colours. We ask students to bring a gold coin donation, with all funds raised going towards buying sports equipment to be used at play times.
On Friday the 13th of September all student leaders went to Kilmore Primary School, there were schools such as Kilmore, Beveridge, Upper Plenty and Wallan. At Kilmore they did activities such as charades, drawing without speaking, then we ordered ourselves from smallest to tallest, than in alphabetical order. Than we did what we need on an island poster, we also did knotting our arms and trying to unknot it, lastly we made a balloon tower and came back to school and had a good day.

Today was our end of term game against the teachers. We played number basketball.
The teachers had amazing skill and their communication was on point.
The end scores were 4-12.
The teachers got the best of us but in the end, it was a thrilling couple of games.
Ace P and Ethan were the student scorers.
The students had an unexpected guest, MISS PEMBERTON joined the students with a year 6 jumper on.
It was an amazing experience, and we are sure everyone who participated had an amazing time, we did! We just want to congratulate all competitors. The teacher’s height impacted our game, but we all did our best and everyone played fairly and gave everyone a shot.
The sportsmanship was amazing and everyone watching was being so supportive to both teams.
We have some exciting news!!
Construction of the new portable classrooms and toilets at the Ambrosia Campus has began.
We have received four additional classrooms and two additional toilet blocks to accommodate the additional growth in our school community. These additional buildings will be ready to use at the beginning of the 2025 school year.
