Dear Families,
I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend and that you were able to have some much deserved down time. It has definitely been another warm week and we look forward to some cooler weather next week.
School Council Members
We are still looking for parent/guardian representatives for our School Council. If you would like to collaborate with members of the school community into the governance and organisation of school operations and strategic planning, then please get in touch. The School Council meets twice per term on a Monday at 4:30pm.
NAPLAN Assessments
Our grade 3 and 5 students have begun their online NAPLAN Literacy and Numeracy assessments this week and they have all put in an amazing effort. Well done! The assessments will continue into next week, along with catch up tests for any students who may have been absent.
Harmony Day Friday 21st March
Next week we acknowledge Harmony Day, whereby we celebrate our community diversity and multiculturalism throughout Australia. Students and staff are encouraged to wear cultural dress or a splash of orange on the day (t-shirt, headband, hair ribbons etc) and will be involved in Harmony Day activities within their classes on the day. Please note, this is NOT an out of uniform day. All families are also invited to attend our Community Picnic at the Ambrosia campus from 5-6pm.
Ramadan
I would also like to acknowledge that we have some families observing Ramadan (Feb 28th through to Mar 30th), the holiest month on the Islamic calendar. For some of our families the next month of Ramadan will be a very cultural and festive time.
Easter Celebrations
The end of term 1 is going to be here very shortly, which means we have the following happening over the next three weeks: Bakers Delight Hot Cross Bun fundraiser, Easter hamper raffle and our Junior campus Easter bonnet parade. Please make sure you read through the Compass notifications for further details.
Yours sincerely,
Christine Cole
Did you know that we have been changing and updating how we are teaching English and Mathematics at BPS?
Our teachers have been undergoing lots of professional development over the past two years of what research is telling us is ‘best practice’ in teaching primary aged children. Using evidence-based practices grounded in the Science of Learning, our lessons are carefully planned and based on the Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) model.
Our students receive approximately 10 hours of English instruction each week, with a focus on the 'Big 6' areas of literacy, designed inline with the Victorian Curriculum English 2.0.
The Big 6
At Beveridge Primary School, students engage in approximately 6 hours of Mathematics instruction per week to ensure we are maximising the opportunities for students to learn, retain and recall important maths concepts and ideas. The curriculum is also designed to develop Victorian Curriculum Mathematics 2.0 proficiencies.
To ensure every student’s success, we closely monitor progress and provide targeted tutoring for those who may need additional support. Our dedicated team of teachers is supported by two Instructional Learning Specialists, on each campus, and participate in ongoing professional development to stay at the forefront of current research and best practices.
We are already seeing our students making huge gains in their learning and are so proud of their success. Looking forward to seeing our students flourish further in the future.
Student certificates will be given each week on a Friday in their classroom.

On the 6th of March, students selected for the Mitchell District Swim Team met at Broadford Leisure centre for the Division Swimming Carnival. Our Division Carnival sees both the Woodland and Whittlesea Division event held concurrently. A huge day of action in the pool, plenty of close races and tough competition. Our young team competed well with several students barely missing out on a ribbon on their first visit to a district championship. Hopefully, this young team is a good sign for years to come and they will continue to be competitive as they progress through the age groups. While everyone gave it their all, only one swimmer in Ivy A. has made it through to the Northern Metropolitan Region (NMR) Swimming Carnival. We wish her all the best in her competition and can’t wait to hear about her experience at a Regional Carnival next week.

Star Workshop
We are excited to introduce an engaging and empowering program for Grade 6 boys, proudly run by Nexus. This program is designed to help students develop essential life skills, including self-regulation and accountability, using the STAR method and STAR breathing techniques for emotional regulation. Through interactive sessions, students will explore the importance of maintaining a healthy balance in life—focusing on nutrition, sleep, and exercise—while also learning how to manage emotions, practice positive social interactions, take responsibility for their actions, and seek help when needed. Led by experienced mentors, this program provides a strong foundation for personal growth and success.
Please refer to the Compass event for more information.
