Term 2 - Week 6

Principal's Message

Dear Families,

This week it’s been a big week with our students being involved in many exciting and engaging extracurricular activities. And, today our teachers have spent the day focusing on curriculum preparation, assessment and reporting.

Congratulations to our Grade 3-6 students who competed in the Cross Country run on Wednesday. We have a number of students who have made it through to the next level of the competition in the coming weeks.

I would also like to commend our Grade 6 Student Leaders who spent the day at the Junior campus last Friday. The senior students participate in various classroom activities, offering guidance and mentorship to younger students. Their demonstration of our school values was exceptional.

Reconciliation Week

This week is Reconciliation Week. Reconciliation week is a special time in Australia when people come together to learn about and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, their cultures, and their history. On Monday we had two special guests, Uncle Ian Hunter and his granddaughter Tarni, spend the day at the campuses to help us learn about and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. The students loved engaging in the dance at the assemblies.

Next Week - Principals Conference

Silvia Menelaou and I will be attending the Government Schools Principal Conference next week on Tuesday and Wednesday. The theme for this year is “Excellence in every classroom”. The conference will provide evidence-informed professional learning, inspiring presentations, workshops and networking opportunities.

Good luck to all our Grade 6 students who are participating in the winter sports gala day tomorrow at Assumption College in Kilmore. Have fun!

Yours sincerely,

Christine Cole

District Cross Country

Following our school cross country a few weeks ago 50 students were chosen to represent our school at the Mitchell District Cross Country Carnival.  On Wednesday the 28th of May, the students travelled to Kilmore Racing Club for the District Event. The students did an excellent job representing our school and showing the school values of Respect, Togetherness, Resilience and Excellence.

We had a great day, despite the cold winds and managed to stay mostly dry for the day. 2km for the 9/10-year-olds and 3km for the 11/12/13s proved to quite the challenge and everyone certainly gave it their all! The efforts of the following students in particular should be commended, earning their place at the Whittlesea Division Carnival back in Kilmore next Wednesday the 4th June. We wish our athletes all the best for the next round!

Reconciliation Week

Uncle Ian Hunter and his granddaughter Tarni spent the day at both campuses on Monday to help us learn about and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.
Uncle Ian played the digeridoo and students had lots of fun learning some indigenous dance moves at assembly.

Mitchell Shire Traffic Pop Up Session

Next Thursday 5th June from 2:30 - 4pm we will have representatives from Mitchell Shire Council hosting a school pop up session at the Junior Campus.

 The primary purpose of this session is to;

  • Share the findings of the recent traffic study
  • Explain the short, medium and long term plans
  • Listening to concerns and feedback from the school community
  • Answer any other questions from the school community
  • Discuss safe driving, parking, walking, and cycling options

We would love to see as many families as possible giving constructive feedback, so if you can spare a few extra minutes at pick up time, we would greatly appreciate it.

Student Social Media

Dear Families,

Recently, we've noticed that some of our students have been discussing content from social media platforms like Facebook and Snapchat. While these platforms are popular, they can sometimes expose children to inappropriate or distressing material. Some of our students have expressed concern over what they've seen, which has affected their focus and comfort at school.

Although these incidents occur outside of school hours, their impact is felt here, as students bring their worries with them. This year, we've been focusing on teaching our students about online safety. Our local Victoria Police community liaisons have visited the senior campus to speak with every class about how to stay safe online.

We kindly ask that you:

  • Review your child's access to social media platforms.
  • Discuss with them the importance of being safe online.
  • Remind them never to share personal details or locations on social media.

Together, we can help our children navigate the online world safely.

Thank you for your support.

We are asking families if possible to dontate a box of tissues to be shared for their childs classroom.

These can be dropped off at the office or taken directly to the classroom.
