Honouring Mrs. Karen Somers Remarkable 40+ Year Journey in Primary Education

At the end of this term, we bid a fond farewell to Mrs. Karen Somers, a beloved educator whose career has spanned more than four decades. Mrs Somers has been a constant source of inspiration, kindness, and wisdom—not just to her students, but to every member of our school community. As she steps into retirement, we celebrate the lasting impact she has made on our school community.

Congratulations, Mrs. Somers, on a remarkable career filled with love, laughter, and learning. Best wishes for a restful, happy, and fulfilling retirement, Mrs Somers.

Arrowsmith Art

During Term 2 students at Arrowsmith have been exploring Indigenous artwork and experimenting with dot painting, which uses tiny dots of paint to create beautiful pictures that often tell important stories about nature, animals, family, and the land.  We looked at some Australian animals and painted patterns and dots around them. Foundation students traced their hands and decorated them to create a striking display for Reconciliation week.

Bike Ed

Exciting News – Bike Education Program Coming Soon!

Following recent staff training, we are thrilled to announce the launch of our Bike Education Program for our year 6 students! This engaging and practical program is designed to teach children the skills they need to ride safely, confidently, and responsibly in their communities.

The program will focus on:

  • Building basic riding and bike-handling skills

  • Developing road safety awareness and understanding traffic rules

  • Promoting the use of helmets and safety gear

  • Encouraging physical activity and independence

Bike Ed is a fantastic opportunity for students to develop lifelong skills while having fun and being active outdoors. Our trained staff are excited to guide students through a series of sessions that will progressively build their competence and confidence.

Being in our first year of implementation, we acknowledge that we are in need of some essential equipment to make this opportunity possible for ALL of our students.

In particular we are on the lookout for the following items to make this program possible.

  • Second hand bicycles - preferably bikes with gears.
  • Helmets, bikes, pumps or safety gear.
  • Puncture repair kits, basic tools and maintenance equipment
  • Parent and Community support in volunteers to join local rides, provide bike checks and minor repairs.
  • Donations to support the purchase of required equipment

We would love you to get in contact to discuss ways in which you may be able to support the program.

Safe Crossings mean Safe Kids

We’re reminding the community to slow down and take care at
school crossings. Our school crossing supervisors do an
amazing job, but they can’t do it alone. Let’s all do our part to
keep our kids and crossing supervisors safe.
Remember to:
• Slow down around school crossings and prepare to stop.
• Respect School Crossing Supervisors, they’re trained to support your children’s safety.
• Stop and wait until the school crossing is clear of all pedestrians including supervisors.
• If the school crossing flags are displayed, you must give way.
• Don’t let your children get in or out of your vehicle when stopped waiting at a school crossing.
• If you see a school crossing, use it.

The rules around school crossings aren’t just courtesy, they’re the law. To find out more, visit transport.vic.gov.au/schoolcrossings

School Holiday Basketball Program

Wallan Basketball Association is excited to be running a fun and engaging School Holiday Basketball Program at RB Robson Stadium during the July break.

The program caters to all skill levels, with sessions for both domestic and representative players, and is run by our BigV import players – providing a great opportunity for local kids to learn from elite-level athletes while staying active over the break.

Parent Code of Conduct

At Beveridge PS, we are proud of the strong, respectful, and inclusive community we continue to build together. As a school community, we are guided by our school values: Respect, Excellence, Resilience andTogetherness.

We know that our children learn best when the adults around them lead by example, modelling empathy, patience, and respect.

Lately, there have been a few instances where interactions between parents and staff particularly those on duty or working in our busy front offices have not reflected the respectful behaviours we strive to uphold. While we understand that frustrations can arise from time to time, it is never acceptable to direct that frustration at our staff through aggression, yelling and disrespectful language. These actions impact not only staff wellbeing, but also the tone and culture we work so hard to cultivate for our students.

Our School Policy outlines expectations for all adult members of our school community. It reminds us that we are all role models. Whether at drop-off and pick up, during school events, or in a conversation with staff, each of us has a responsibility to show our children what respectful, constructive communication looks like, even when we disagree or are under pressure.

We ask that all parents and carers support our shared values by:

  • Speaking calmly and respectfully with all staff, including office staff and those on duty.
  • Using appropriate school channels to raise any concerns or questions.
  • Approaching issues with a spirit of partnership, not confrontation.
  • Remembering that staff are here to help and are doing their best in a large and school environment.

We are here to listen, support, and problem solve together. Our goal is always to work with you, for the benefit of your child.

Together, we can ensure Beveridge Primary School is a safe, respectful, and thriving learning environment for all.
