Learning

In term 3, the grade 6 students are focusing on the following:

• English- In English we will be working on persuasive writing. The reading that will go alongside this learning will be “The all new must have orange 430” by Michael Speechly. Following our learning about persuasive writing we will be learning about and holding debates within the grade 6 cohort. 
• Numeracy – This term in Maths, grade 6 will be focusing on percentages, estimation and financial maths. This focus goes alongside our inquiry unit. Students will also do some learning about number patterns and working out unknown values. There will be a unit on measurement centering mainly on area and perimeter. In addition to this, we will be continuing our learning from term 1, about Cartesian planes. 
• Inquiry – Our inquiry topic this term will be Economics and Business. To begin the term, students will learn some basics of how to use digital spreadsheets. This will be followed by a project where students design a product and convince the cohort that their concept is worth pursuing in a ‘shark tank’ type of experience. 

Home Learning

Homework may consist of:

• borrowing of books from the Library on a weekly basis (must have Library bag) 
• daily reading to, with, or by parents/carer or older siblings
• researching topics associated with set class work 
• practising reading fluency
• completing consolidation exercises for mathematics 
• practising sports skills
• practising and playing musical instruments 
• research project and extension activities
• Literacy/Numeracy online applications to support learning (ie. ebooks, audio books, Khan Academy)

Students are generally not expected to complete more than 30 - 45 minutes of homework per day.
