Term 2 - Week 4

Principal's Message

Dear Families,

Thank you to our P&F committee for hosting the Mother’s Day stalls last week. And, CONGRATULATIONS to all our prize winners of the raffle. So many wonderful gifts were donated for the hampers.

Tomorrow we also acknowledge and celebrate Education Support Staff Day! Our Admin and classroom support staff and key personnel in making sure each and every child is supported at our school.

Cross Country Trials Grades 4-6

Running trials took place at the Ambrosia campus this week on Thursday for those students wanting to participate. We have many students who will be competing in the next level of the competition against other schools.

Staff Professional Development: Sounds Write Phonics Training

Over the past two weeks, five of our dedicated teachers participated in professional learning focused on strengthening teaching practices and improving student outcomes. Staff undertook Sounds-Write Phonics Training, building their knowledge and understanding of evidence-based approaches to phonics instruction and early literacy development. We value the ongoing commitment of our staff to professional growth and their dedication to providing high-quality learning experiences for all students.

Grade 2/3 Swimming Program

Our Grade 2 and 3 students are excited to be participating in a swimming program this term, with each class completing five lessons. This valuable program supports students to build confidence and safety in and around water, while also developing important swimming and survival skills. Students have been enthusiastic about their learning and are making great progress as they develop their technique and water awareness.

Take care,

Christine Cole

School Dress Code - Uniform Reminder

School Uniform Reminder

The Principal Class members would like to remind all families of the Beveridge Primary School Dress Code (Uniform) Policy.

This dress code has been developed by School Council in close consultation with our school community to ensure that it respects the rights of individual students whilst reflecting the values and interests of our community.

We have noticed an increase of INCORRECT school uniform worn by many students so far this year and would like to remind families of the following:

  • Tops MUST have a collar – NO T-SHIRTS ALLOWED
  • Outer wear tops MUST have a school emblem on them
  • No Hoodies - students have a range of school jumpers and jackets to choose from
  • Shorts and skirts/skorts MUST be in the same style as in the picture below
  • NO TIGHT-FITTING SHORTS are allowed to be worn (ie. Active wear, dance shorts, bloomers, etc.)
  • Shoes MUST be black – see picture below for some examples
  • Students are NOT permitted to wear decorative jewellery to school - Stud earrings and sleepers worn in the ears, and watches, are the only acceptable jewellery
  • Fake/acrylic or extra long nails are NOT ALLOWED
  • Head wear MUST be Navy blue and/or white – ie. headbands, hair ribbons, “scrunchies” or headwear worn as part of cultural/religious beliefs (turbans, head scarfs etc).

Classroom teachers will give students a verbal warning first, but if INCORRECT school uniform continues, parents/families will be contacted as per school policy

Uniform items can be purchased from the uniform supplier PSW in Craigieburn. https://www.psw.com.au/

Beveridge Primary School also operates a second-hand uniform store for parents/carers at the Ambrosia Way campus.

Please contact the school to discuss support that we may be able to provide to families experiencing difficulty meeting uniform costs, including information about eligibility for uniform support through State Schools’ Relief or the School Saving Bonus.

We’re Taking It in Our Stride – Friday 22 May 2026

We’re Taking It in Our Stride – Friday 22 May 2026

It’s that time of year again when our school shines a spotlight on something simple but powerful—walking!

Walk Safely to School Day on Friday 22 May 2026 encourages families to pause and reflect on their daily travel habits, and to look for easy ways to include more walking into everyday routines. While walking the entire journey to school may not be realistic for everyone, there are many small changes that can make a big difference to children’s health and wellbeing.

You can help your child build the healthy habit of walking more by:

  • Walking with them all the way to school when possible
  • If they catch public transport, getting off one stop earlier and walking the remaining distance
  • If driving, parking a few blocks away from school and walking the rest of the way together

Regular walking is a simple but powerful form of exercise. It helps support healthy growth and development, and can reduce the risk of long-term health concerns such as obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and mental health challenges. It also provides valuable time to connect with your child and talk about their day.

Importantly, walking together is also a great opportunity to reinforce road safety skills. Children learn how to navigate traffic environments safely, build awareness of their surroundings, and practise responsible pedestrian behaviour.

Remember—active kids are healthy kids. Let’s take this opportunity to plan your Walk Safely to School journey and make Friday 22 May 2026 a positive step toward lifelong healthy habits.

Special Persons Morning

Foundation

In English, we have been learning our new letter sounds. Last week we focused on d, e, f and v, and this week we are learning k, l, r and u. Students have been using these sounds to read and write simple CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words. We have also been learning the difference between a letter, word and sentence, and practising using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces in our writing.

In Maths, we have been learning to partition numbers up to 10. Students have been exploring different ways to make numbers, such as 5 and 5 makes 10 or 8 and 2 makes 10. We have also been learning positional language including under, on top, beside/next to, in front and behind.

In Inquiry, we are continuing our learning about what things are made of. Students enjoyed a fun experiment where we investigated the best materials to use for a raincoat.

In Wellbeing, we are continuing to learn about the Zones of Regulation and regularly checking in with students to help them identify and talk about how they are feeling.

We also enjoyed making special Mother’s Day cards and gifts. We hope all our mums and special people had a wonderful Mother’s Day!

Grade 2

In writing, students have been learning about procedural texts. We have been focusing on recipes, and we have used our writing to follow our procedure. We have been learning that parts of a procedure include a title, ingredients, equipment and instructions. We have made a vegemite sandwich and fairy bread.

Our teachers have been making sure our rooms look great! We have been using a new ready to learn scale in the mornings to talk about how we feel in the mornings and we have been using our visual scales in class to show when we have been superstar work.

We have also started our swimming lessons. They have been going swimmingly!! We have enjoyed going on the bus to the swim school, even if it is a bit cold.

Grade 6

Grade 6 Term 2 Week 4

Grade 6 Fundraising

Our Grade 6 fundraising initiative this term has our cohort selling cookies and snake lollies to students. Students have continued to demonstrate responsibility, reliability and leadership while managing sales and supporting the fundraising process. It has been wonderful to see the cohort representing the school so positively.

English

Over the past few weeks in English, students have continued developing their poetry writing skills through a range of engaging activities and lessons. Students explored poetic techniques including AABBCC rhyme structure, personification, figurative language, imagery and alliteration while creating their own nature-based poems. This week, students focused on sentence expansion and incorporating relative clauses into their writing using examples connected to our class novel, ‘The Last Bear’.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, students have been learning how to add and subtract fractions using a range of strategies and problem-solving tasks. Students also explored how to identify and measure supplementary angles. This week, students have moved onto interpreting number properties, while also investigating concepts related to probability and chance through hands-on learning activities and discussions.

Inquiry

Last week, students completed their Inquiry unit investigating how plants and animals adapt to survive in different environments and contexts. This week, Grade 6 students have begun their new unit, ‘Living Things In Their Environments’. Students are exploring how living things survive in extreme environments, as well as investigating how and why animals migrate or hibernate according to environmental changes and seasonal conditions.
