Dear Families,
I would like to thank all the staff and families for a wonderful last week of Term 2. It's been a busy and tiring week, but we made it. Wishing all students a well deserved break and families a happy holiday period. If you are traveling, please stay safe and have fun. Can't wait to see you all back in Term 3 on Monday 13th July.
Thank you to everyone for getting involved in our Pyjama Day fundraiser on Wednesday. It was definitely a great day to be wearing warm pjs for the day. The gold coin donations will be given to the Do it for Dolly charity and the boxes of tissues will be going right back into the classrooms.

Foundation 2 Update
English
Students have been working very hard to develop their reading fluency, with some students already reading whole sentences independently. We have been learning about double sounds such as ll, ff, ss, and zz in words like bell, hiss, buzz, and off, and practising writing them. Students have continued writing dictated sentences, focusing on using capital letters, full stops, finger spaces, and sounding out words carefully. It has been wonderful to see students applying their growing sound knowledge to write letters and words independently.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, we have been exploring addition through number stories and using materials to represent these stories on ten frames. We have also been learning about data and how to collect, sort, and interpret it, as well as exploring yes/no questions.
Inquiry
Our Inquiry learning has focused on how things move. Students have investigated how different animals move, exploring whether they run, hop, slide, or swim. We have enjoyed watching videos of animals, acting out different animal movements, and drawing animals that move in various ways.
Wellbeing
In Wellbeing, we have been learning about problem-solving and exploring different techniques and strategies that help students identify how big a problem is and how they can solve it independently or seek support from an adult when needed.
We have had a fun and busy term and are very proud of all that the students have achieved. We look forward to continuing our learning together in Term 3!
This term has been full of exciting learning experiences in Year 2! Students thoroughly enjoyed participating in the swimming program, where they developed their confidence in the water and practised important water safety skills.
In Writing, students learnt how to write procedures by creating and writing their own recipes. They enjoyed following the structure of procedural texts and sharing their delicious ideas.
In Science, students explored the forces of push and pull through hands-on investigations and applied their learning by designing and making their own puppets.
Our new Mathematics program has had a fantastic start, with students showing enthusiasm and confidence as they develop their mathematical understanding through engaging learning experiences.
In Digital Technologies, students learnt how to create PowerPoint presentations, developing their digital skills by adding text, images, and simple design features to present their work.
We are so proud of the effort, resilience, and enthusiasm our Year 2 students have shown throughout the term. We wish everyone a safe and relaxing break and look forward to another wonderful term ahead!
Grade 6 Term 2 Week 10
To conclude our English learning this term, students completed our class novel, ‘The Last Bear’. Throughout the novel study, students were highly engaged and thoroughly enjoyed following the journey of the characters and exploring the important themes presented in the story.
Students also published their persuasive letters advocating for the protection of polar bears and raising awareness about the risks they face due to climate change. It was fantastic to see students confidently apply a range of persuasive language techniques, including emotive language, rhetorical questions, expert opinions and strong calls to action to support their arguments.
To finish off the term, students focused on developing their understanding of Multiplication and Division as well as Financial Mathematics.
In Multiplication and Division, students learned how to:
In Financial Mathematics, students began creating their own communities in small groups. Students designed aerial maps of their communities and explored how different occupations, services and income sources contribute to building and sustaining a successful and connected society.
This term, students explored the fascinating world of light and lenses through a range of hands-on investigations and scientific inquiries.
Students learned that light travels in straight lines called rays and explored reflection through interactive activities, including the Light Rays game. They investigated refraction by conducting an experiment using a torch, mirror, card and water to observe how light changes direction when travelling through different materials.
Students also investigated how lenses have been developed over time to solve vision problems and help us observe the world in new ways. As part of this learning, students researched the work of Dr Fred Hollows and examined how scientific knowledge and innovation have improved eye care and restored sight for millions of people around the world.
Students have now completed their Grade 6 Semester 1 Student Portfolio using Google Slides. These portfolios showcase a range of learning achievements from across the semester and will be shared during Parent-Teacher Meetings on Wednesday 22nd July.
Portfolio samples include:
We are incredibly proud of the effort students have put into compiling their portfolios and reflecting on their learning achievements throughout Semester 1.
Arrowsmith Specialists for Term 2
Visual Art
During the term students have explored the vibrant collage style of Henri Rousseau by cutting, layering and arranging shapes to create imaginative jungle-inspired artworks and an introduction to Indigenous Australian art. We looked at Indigenous art as a way of telling stories and representing connection to Country, using symbols, lines and natural colours. Students created their own stories in this manner.
Performing Arts
Students have been learning and practicing their production performances. We have been practising our singing, dancing, positions on stage and bright faces so that we can captivate the audience with our spectacular work.
Ambrosia Specialists for Term 2
Visual Art
Our Grade 2 students used the bright and colourful artwork of Yayoi Kusama as inspiration to create their own unique floral art designs. Students drew a range of organic circle shapes and added intricate petal designs and patterns using oil pastels. They explored colour palettes and applied watercolour paints to produce a wax resist effect on their masterpieces.
Our Year 6 students created a campsite themed artwork. They followed directed drawing instructions to create the tent, then used their imaginations to add features in the background, middle-ground and foreground that complimented their camping ground choice.
Performing Arts
Students at Ambrosia have been learning and rehearsing their performances for the Term 3 production. Every class is a little different and have been drilling lyrics, dance movements and / or playing instruments so that our performances are outstanding and captivating.
PE
Year 5 students have been learning the concepts of read, react, respond and recover through a variety of drills and mini-games during PE lessons. Students have applied their learning to net and wall games, displaying excellent teamwork.
Our whole school production of Beveridge Beats 109.9FM: The Homegrown Hour is taking place during the last week of Term Three on Wednesday 16th September. We will have three performances – 10am, 1pm and 6pm. All three performances will be the same and all students are performing in all three shows. Ticket information will be sent out during Term Three.
All students from Foundation through to Year Six are taking part in the production. We kindly ask that families provide costumes for students specific to the song's genre and era. Please see information below so that you and your child/ren can begin to find items over the holidays to help build a costume. If you require further clarification, please contact the office and we will forward your query to the relevant person who will contact you.
Please see the following link with the list of costume requirements for each grade.
