Dear Families, 

Welcome back, everyone! I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable two‑week break. A special warm welcome to the new families joining us at Beveridge PS this term—we’re thrilled to have you as part of our school community.

Term 3 is shaping up to be action‑packed! We’ve planned a fantastic lineup of events, including engaging incursions and excursions, exciting sports days, our grade 6 camp, the beloved Book Week celebration and our School Concert in week 10! We look forward to an enthusiastic and inspiring term ahead!

NAIDOC Week 2026

Today our students proudly took part in a range of NAIDOC Week activities, celebrating the rich histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Students participated in engaging classroom learning experiences that encouraged reflection, respect and a deeper understanding of First Nations cultures.

A highlight of the day was welcoming Elder Ian Hunter, who shared his knowledge, stories and experiences with our students. We sincerely thank Ian for his inspiring presentation and for helping our students strengthen their understanding of Country, culture and community.

Staffing Update

This term we welcome the following new and returning staff members:

• Rebecca Lowe-Wheeler - classroom teacher at Ambrosia campus
• Michelle Piper - Classroom support at Arrowsmith campus

Parent/Teacher Interviews

Will be taking place for all students at both the Arrowsmith and Ambrosia campuses next Wednesday 22nd July, from 11am - 7pm. This will be an opportunity for you to book a 15 minute conference with your child’s classroom teacher to discuss your child’s learning progress and mid-year report. This will be a pupil free day, however we encourage you to also bring your child with you to the conference. Bookings can be made through Compass.

100 Days at School - Wed 29th July

Our Foundation students will be celebrating their ‘100 days at school’ early this term! We encourage (Foundation) students to dress up, with the theme being 100, and we will have a short parade at 9am, followed by an invitation for families to visit their child’s classroom.

Dear Parent/Carer,

Thank you for your important support for our campaign for improved pay and conditions. At the moment an agreement between the state government and AEU members is not yet in place and the dispute remains unresolved. This means AEU members at Beveridge Primary School will be stopping work for 24 hours on Thursday 23 July 2026. It is important that you know exactly why we have reluctantly decided to take this action.

We understand our action presents difficulties for some parents and carers. However, the fact is that when it comes to investing in education, Victoria is bottom of the class. We are very concerned about the impact of this on your child’s education.

Every other state and territory fund their public schools to the minimum amount required, except for Victoria. The Allan Labor government has made the deliberate decision to not fund Victorian public schools to the nationwide funding standard, which means that staff at our school are regularly working many hours of unpaid overtime each week to ensure that students receive the support and educational programs they deserve.  The goodwill of teachers, education support staff, and principals is no replacement for full and proper funding.  Victorian public schools can no longer be the lowest funded in the country and AEU members are standing together to demand that our schools are fully funded.

Australian Education Union members in every public school across Victoria are trying to get the state government to fund our schools properly and deliver a new pay and conditions agreement. While an offer was made by the government in May this year, it failed to address some key concerns including in relation to workloads that need to be better addressed in a revised offer. 

At the moment, the state government refuses to make the investment that would properly allow schools to recruit and retain the staff needed.  With only 3 in 10 public school workers planning to stay in their jobs until retirement, nothing is more important for the learning and wellbeing of our students than retaining the existing workforce and attracting the next generation, especially at a time of ongoing staffing shortages. 

This means as union members we are left with no alternative but to take further stopwork action on 23 July 2026, and we would like to count on your support in this campaign. 

Please let the state government know that you want Victorian public schools to be fully funded and for public school staff to have increased salaries and improved conditions. One supportive action that you can take would be to write to your state Labor member of the Victorian Parliament to tell them that you expect your school to be fully funded and that school staff receive pay and conditions that reflect the importance and value of their work.

We’ve been advised that a national test of AusAlert will happen across Australia on Monday 27 July at 2 pm. 

AusAlert is a new, national emergency warning system. It sends warning messages to compatible mobile devices during emergencies, to keep people informed so they can act quickly. The Australian Government plans to launch AusAlert in October 2026. 

On Monday 27 July at 2 pm, all compatible mobile devices will receive a Critical Alert. Compatible mobile devices include phones, tablets, smart watches, safety watches and some vehicle devices. These will vibrate and make a loud, siren-like warning sound for about 10 seconds. This will happen even if they are on silent or do not disturb. The message will clearly state that it is a test. No action is required from the test. 

To minimise disruption, student phones and smart devices should always be switched off and stored securely in lockers or bags during the school day. Students who use their mobile phone as part of a documented exception can continue to do so. If appropriate, they can turn their phone off during the test. 

You may also wish to let your child know that if they see or hear the alert, school staff will support them. You can learn more at AusAlert: children and teens. Information is also available in other languages. 

Safe phones 

AusAlert may increase risk for people experiencing violence, especially if they live with someone who uses violence. Alerts may expose safety devices. 

If you or someone you know has a hidden device, the best way to stay safe during the test is to: 

• turn off your mobile device or put it in aeroplane mode 

• keep your device off or in aeroplane mode for 24 hours. 

Silent mode and do not disturb will not stop the alert.

Our whole school production of Beveridge Beats 109.9FM: The Homegrown Hour is taking place during the last week of Term Three on Wednesday 16th September. We will have three performances – 10am, 1pm and 6pm. All three performances will be the same and all students are performing in all three shows. Ticket information will be sent out during Term Three.

All students from Foundation through to Year Six are taking part in the production. We kindly ask that families provide costumes for students specific to the song's genre and era. Please see information below so that you and your child/ren can begin to find items over the holidays to help build a costume. If you require further clarification, please contact the office and we will forward your query to the relevant person who will contact you.
