Yr 3&5 NAPLAN Data

Congratulations to all our Yr 3 & 5 students for their amazing effort and results of the NAPLAN Literacy and Numeracy assessments that were undertaken at the end of term 1. Individual student results will be sent home with students this week. We are really proud of all of our students! 

100 Days at School

Next Wednesday 29th July our Foundation students will be celebrating their ‘100 days at school’! We encourage students to dress up, with the theme being 100, and we will have a short parade at 9am, followed by an invitation for families to visit their child’s classroom. 

Don’t forget that all Foundation 2027 enrolments are due by the end of next week -  31st July. Please contact the Office asap if you need assistance with enrolment.

Last Thursday Beveridge Primary School celebrated NAIDOC Week. Our NAIDOC Celebration Day at BPS was a wonderful opportunity for students and staff to come together to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and achievements while continuing to strengthen our connection to Country.

A highlight of the day was welcoming Elder Ian Hunter, who generously shared his knowledge, stories and deep connection to culture and Country with our school community. Students were captivated by his storytelling, which helped bring culture and history to life in a meaningful and engaging way. They were also inspired by his incredible playing of the Yidaki (didgeridoo), creating a memorable experience that many students will remember for years to come.

Throughout the day, students enthusiastically participated in a range of hands-on activities designed to celebrate culture through learning, creativity and play. They explored Indigenous games, created beautiful artworks inspired by First Nations traditions, participated in yarning circles to learn about respectful listening and sharing, and took part in dance activities that celebrated movement, music and storytelling.

The day was filled with curiosity, respect and joy, providing meaningful opportunities for students to deepen their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures while celebrating the richness and diversity of Australia's First Peoples. It was a fantastic day of learning and connection, and we extend our sincere thanks to Elder Ian Hunter for sharing his time, knowledge and culture with our school community.

We are having so much fun in Grade 1 this term!

We are learning about different 2D shapes. We have been using geoboards to make the shapes, then drawing them in our grid books. We can say how many sides and how many corners each shape has. We can also name the shapes: triangle, square, rectangle, rhombus and trapezium. Finally, a really tricky thing to do, was to combine shapes to make a new one. It is a lot of fun to do!

Welcome back to Term 3! We have an exciting term of learning ahead and are looking forward to seeing our students continue to grow in confidence and curiosity.

In Inquiry, students will be exploring Australian History, learning about the events and people that have shaped Australia over time. Through engaging activities and discussions, students will develop an understanding of how our country has changed and evolved.

In Mathematics, students will build their understanding of multiplication, division and fractions, while continuing to develop their non-number skills through learning about capacity, mass and statistics.

In Literacy, we will begin reading the much-loved novel Charlotte's Web by E. B. White. Students will participate in a novel study, exploring the characters, themes and author's craft while developing their comprehension, vocabulary and writing skills through a range of engaging literacy activities.

Welcome back to Term 3! We hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday break. We have an exciting term ahead, with lots of engaging learning experiences across all curriculum areas.

In Literacy, the Grade 5 students have begun exploring the structure and features of informative texts by investigating how animals adapt to survive in their environments. Students are identifying the purpose and organisation of information texts, including the use of headings, factual language and topic-specific vocabulary. Throughout the term, they will use these mentor texts to plan, draft and publish their own informative texts about animal adaptations.

In Mathematics, the Grade 5 students have continued to develop their understanding of multiplication and division by exploring a range of efficient mental and written strategies to solve problems. They have practised applying these skills to real-world situations and explaining the mathematical thinking behind their solutions. Students have also begun investigating weight and measurement, comparing the masses of different objects, selecting appropriate units of measurement, and reading a variety of scales accurately.

In Inquiry, the Grade 5 students have begun exploring the geography of Australia, with a focus on the diverse environments and habitats found across our country. As part of this unit, students are investigating how animals have adapted to survive in different Australian habitats by researching a range of structural, behavioural and physiological adaptations. Throughout the term, students will build their research and note-taking skills before applying their learning to a culminating inquiry project at the end of the year.

In Design and Technologies, the Grade 5 students will be investigating sustainability and exploring how thoughtful design can help reduce waste and protect the environment. They will examine a range of sustainable materials, products and practices before using the design process to plan, create and evaluate their own sustainability-based project later in the term.

We are looking forward to an exciting and rewarding Term 3 as students continue to build their knowledge, develop new skills and challenge themselves through a range of engaging learning experiences. We appreciate your ongoing support and look forward to sharing their achievements throughout the term.

During this semester, our junior artists will be exploring the exciting concept of symmetry, and we have started by creating vibrant artworks inspired by one of Australia's iconic native animals—the emu. We discussed how symmetrical designs have matching halves. They used bright colours, patterns and creative details to make their emu. Through this activity, students developed their understanding of shape, line and colour while celebrating Australia's unique wildlife.  Some amazing, colourful emus were created.

This term students have been continuing to practice their concert piece and have also been taking the time to learn about and try different instruments. So far the students have had the opportunity to learn and play the Ukulele.

The word ‘two’ isn’t as irregular as it looks…

Although it may seem irregular, two belongs to a morphological family of words related to the concept of two or doubling, including:

• two
• twice
• twenty
• twelve
• twin
• twine
• twill/twine (woven with two sets of threads)

Even the chocolate bar Twix was named to evoke the idea of "twin" or "two."

Understanding these word families helps explain why English spellings often make more sense than they first appear.

Our whole school production of Beveridge Beats 109.9FM: The Homegrown Hour is taking place during the last week of Term Three on Wednesday 16th September. We will have three performances – 10am, 1pm and 6pm. All three performances will be the same and all students are performing in all three shows. Ticket information will be sent out during Term Three.

All students from Foundation through to Year Six are taking part in the production. We kindly ask that families provide costumes for students specific to the song's genre and era. Please see information below so that you and your child/ren can begin to find items over the holidays to help build a costume. If you require further clarification, please contact the office and we will forward your query to the relevant person who will contact you.

We’ve been advised that a national test of AusAlert will happen across Australia on Monday 27 July at 2 pm. 

AusAlert is a new, national emergency warning system. It sends warning messages to compatible mobile devices during emergencies, to keep people informed so they can act quickly. The Australian Government plans to launch AusAlert in October 2026. 

On Monday 27 July at 2 pm, all compatible mobile devices will receive a Critical Alert. Compatible mobile devices include phones, tablets, smart watches, safety watches and some vehicle devices. These will vibrate and make a loud, siren-like warning sound for about 10 seconds. This will happen even if they are on silent or do not disturb. The message will clearly state that it is a test. No action is required from the test. 

To minimise disruption, student phones and smart devices should always be switched off and stored securely in lockers or bags during the school day. Students who use their mobile phone as part of a documented exception can continue to do so. If appropriate, they can turn their phone off during the test. 

You may also wish to let your child know that if they see or hear the alert, school staff will support them. You can learn more at AusAlert: children and teens. Information is also available in other languages. 

Safe phones 

AusAlert may increase risk for people experiencing violence, especially if they live with someone who uses violence. Alerts may expose safety devices. 

If you or someone you know has a hidden device, the best way to stay safe during the test is to: 

• turn off your mobile device or put it in aeroplane mode 

• keep your device off or in aeroplane mode for 24 hours. 

Silent mode and do not disturb will not stop the alert.
