Dear Families,
It has been another fantastic week of learning across both campuses, with students engaging in a range of enriching learning experiences.
Book Fair!
Our Book Fair has been a wonderful success this week, with many students enjoying the opportunity to browse and purchase new books. A big thank you to our families for your support. Every purchase helps our campus libraries with additional resources for students to enjoy.
Grade 1 Phonics Check
Our Grade 1 students have continued completing the Phonics Check Assessment this week. This important assessment provides teachers with valuable information about each student's decoding skills and reading development, allowing us to celebrate progress and to ensure future learning meets individual needs.
World of Maths Incursion
Students in Grades 2 and 3 thoroughly enjoyed participating in the World of Maths incursion today. The hands-on activities challenged students to think critically, collaborate with their peers and apply mathematical concepts in engaging and practical ways. It was fantastic to see students enthusiastically tackling a variety of mathematical challenges.
Curriculum Day
Tomorrow, our staff will participate in our Term 3 Curriculum Day. Professional learning will focus on building staff capability in the effective use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education and further strengthening our understanding and implementation of the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM) 2.0. Continuing to invest in high-quality professional learning ensures we are providing the best possible teaching and learning opportunities for every student.
Campus Assemblies
We have our second assemblies for the term coming up next Monday at 9:10am at Ambrosia campus and 2:40pm at the Arrowsmith campus. Looking forward to seeing you all there.
Take care,
Christine

Dear Parents and Carers,
The Australian Education Union (AEU) has advised that its members have been called to take industrial action on Wednesday 19th August 2026.
Based on the information currently available, approximately 50% of our teaching staff and our Education Support staff are expected to participate in the strike. As there will be no replacement teachers available for those participating in the strike, this will significantly impact our ability to run the usual classroom program, and many classes across each year level will not have their regular teacher present on the day.
We are currently reviewing staffing arrangements and will confirm on Monday the number of teachers available and what supervision arrangements will be in place once we have more communication from the AEU.
In the meantime, we kindly ask families to prepare alternative care arrangements for their children, where possible, as the school’s capacity to operate as normal will be limited.
Parents & Friends are organising a Ferguson Plarre lunch order deal for students. This will take place on Friday 28th August at the Ambrosia Campus. We are running this lunch order day to coincide with our whole school activity day to celebrate book week. All students will be at the senior campus this day.
Deals are $10 and include one savoury option AND one sweet option as listed below.
Meat pie / Sausage roll / Gluten free sausage roll / Vegetable pastie
AND
Jam donut / Iced cupcake / Gluten free orange cake
Order forms will be sent home with students today, money and slips must be returned no later than Thursday 20th August. No late orders can be accepted.
Get your costumes ready! We are celebrating BOOK WEEK at Beveridge PS. We will be celebrating with our whole school activity day on Friday 28th August. The theme is ‘Symphony of Stories!’
On Friday 28th all students will be attending the senior campus - 30 Ambrosia Way. The Arrowsmith campus will be closed for this day.
Please note a few important reminders for this day:
DROP OFF/PICK UP TIMES
Morning drop off between 8:30am - 9am.
Afternoon pick up between 3:15 - 3:45pm
Prep and Grade 1 students are to be collected from the gym in the afternoon.
FERGUSON PLARRE LUNCH ORDERS
We will have the Ferguson Plarre special lunch on this day - a reminder that orders close Thursday 20th August. No late orders can be accepted.

Foundation Learning Update
English
In Reading, students have been working in teacher-led groups to develop their reading skills. We are learning to take turns, listen to our peers and use our developing sound knowledge to read books together. In Writing, we have been enjoying The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Students have been using graphic organisers to retell the story and writing sentences to match each part of the sequence.
Mathematics
We have started exploring numbers up to 100! Students are learning to represent numbers using ten frames and are developing their understanding of how larger numbers can be made. We have also just finished our Shape unit. We have been identifying curved and straight sides, counting the number of sides and corners on different shapes, and creating pictures using a range of shapes.
Inquiry
Our Inquiry focus this term is Geography. We are exploring special places, discussing what makes a place special to us and learning about ways we can care for and protect these places.
Wellbeing
We are continuing to learn about the Zones of Regulation. This week, students created their own personal “toolbox” of strategies they can use when they are in different zones. We are learning that all zones are okay and developing strategies to help us return to the Green Zone, where we are ready for learning.
Our Foundation and Grade 1 students have been busy exploring all things balance in PE! Students have been developing their balance, coordination, body control and confidence through a range of fun and challenging activities. From balancing on one foot and holding different body shapes to moving across balance pathways and trying simple gymnastics movements, everyone has been encouraged to have a go and challenge themselves. Students have been learning how to use their bodies safely, control their movements and maintain steady positions. There have been plenty of wobbles, smiles and celebrations as we have explored this unit of work in PE.
Literacy
We have been enjoying our novel study of Charlotte’s Web. Students have been exploring new vocabulary, including words such as bitterly, cautiously and appealing and discussing how these words are used in the story. We have also been busy creating our own narratives, focusing on interesting characters, settings and events.
Mathematics
In Maths, students have been developing a range of new skills. We have been using scales to measure and compare mass, practising different strategies to solve multiplication and division problems and learning how to identify important information when solving worded problems.
Inquiry
We have also begun exploring Australian history! Students are learning about significant events from Australia's past and how these events have helped shape Australia today.
This term, students have been learning how to write information reports while exploring the topic of animal adaptations. This learning links closely to our Inquiry unit, allowing students to investigate how animals survive in different environments and develop their research, note-taking, and report-writing skills.
In Mathematics, students have been strengthening their understanding of division by learning how to express remainders as decimals, whole numbers, and fractions. They have also been exploring measurement concepts, including length, mass, and capacity, while applying these skills to a range of real-world problems.
As part of our Inquiry learning, students have been designing and creating sustainable schools using recycled materials. Through this project, students have been encouraged to think creatively about sustainability, environmental responsibility, and how communities can work together to create a greener future.
Visual Art - Ambrosia Term 3: Week 5
During Semester Two in Visual Arts, Year 5 students explored the vibrant artwork of Australian artist Pete Cromer. They used this as inspiration to create bright and colourful animal collages of their own. Students used a range of mixed media materials and designed their own textured paint papers. They experimented with composition, colour, pattern, and design while carefully planning the arrangement of shapes to create a balanced and engaging artwork. Great job Year 5s!
This term in Visual Art, Year 3 students viewed and discussed the artwork of Denise Fiedler, exploring her distinctive use of layered paper designs and collage techniques. Using a combination of hand-painted and recycled papers, they created unique artworks while developing their cutting, composition and adhesion skills. Students made some amazing masterpieces this term. Well done Year 3s!

Answers to last week’s puzzle:
Deforestation
There are about 450 words that you can make with the letters from deforestation!

English words do not usually end in the letters j, u, or v. When a word would otherwise end in one of these letters, an <e> is often added to make the spelling look complete.
Examples:
have
give
love
blue
value
Supporting Students’ Emotional Resilience
Resilience helps children cope with challenges, manage big emotions and bounce back when things don’t go their way.
Friendship problems, mistakes, losing a game, challenging learning or hearing “no” can feel big for children. These everyday moments are valuable opportunities to practise resilience.
How We Build Resilience at Beveridge Primary School
We explicitly teach and practise resilience by:
How Can Families Help at Home?
You can help build resilience by:
Listen, Support, Encourage
Children don’t always need adults to fix the problem. Sometimes they need us to listen, acknowledge their feelings and help them believe they can handle it.
Every small challenge successfully worked through helps build a more confident and resilient child.
