Dear Families,

We are now over halfway through Term 3, and it is wonderful to see so much learning and activity continuing across both campuses.

This week, we are very pleased to welcome back our Wellbeing Leader, Ms Dakota Allwell, following family leave. Ms Allwell will be working three days a week across both campuses, supporting our students, staff and families and continuing to strengthen our whole-school approach to wellbeing.

Staff Curriculum Day

Last Friday, our staff participated in a full-day Curriculum Day focused on professional learning and strengthening teaching practice across the school. Staff spent the day deepening their understanding of Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM) 2.0, with a particular focus on how the model supports high-quality, evidence-based teaching and learning.

Staff also explored the rapidly developing area of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education, considering how AI can be used responsibly and effectively to support teaching, learning, planning and assessment. It was a valuable day of professional learning and collaboration as we continue to ensure our practices remain contemporary and focused on improving outcomes for all students.

Grade 1 Assembly Performance

We were treated to a fabulous performance from our Grade 1C & 1D students at Monday's Arrowsmith campus assembly, where they performed the song Eastern Rosellas.Well done to everyone involved!

Book Week – Next Week!

Next week is Book Week, always a highlight on our school calendar. We will celebrate with our whole-school Book Week Activity Day and Parade on Friday at the Ambrosia Campus.

We are looking forward to seeing the creative costumes and celebrating our students' love of books, reading and storytelling. Please make sure you check Compass for full event details, including information about the parade and activities planned for the day.

Grade 6 Swimming Program

Our Grade 6 students will conclude their swimming program next week. Over the course of the program, students have developed important swimming, survival and water safety skills and will finish the program by achieving their Water Safety Certificate. Congratulations to our Grade 6 students on their participation and commitment throughout the program.

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 17 August to Friday 18 September 2026.

All families are invited to participate in the survey.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.

The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents / caregivers / guardians who speak a language other than English at home. Please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school directly for survey guides in your language.

The survey results will be communicated to parents / caregivers / guardians through annual reporting once results become available to us. Last year we used the survey results to plan for the following year.

Get your costumes ready! We are celebrating BOOK WEEK at Beveridge PS. We will be celebrating with our whole school activity day on Friday 28th August. The theme is ‘Symphony of Stories!’

On Friday 28th all students will be attending the senior campus - 30 Ambrosia Way. The Arrowsmith campus will be closed for this day.

Please note a few important reminders for this day:

DROP OFF/PICK UP TIMES

Morning drop off between 8:30am - 9am.

Afternoon pick up between 3:15 - 3:45pm

Prep and Grade 1 students are to be collected from the gym in the afternoon.

FERGUSON PLARRE LUNCH ORDERS

We will have the Ferguson Plarre special lunch on this day - a reminder that orders close Thursday 20th August. No late orders can be accepted.

PARADE

We would also like to invite families to attend our costume parade that will take place between 9:15am - 9:45am.

BEFORE/AFTER SCHOOL CARE

Team Kids will ONLY operate from the Ambrosia campus for the day from 7am - 8:45am in the morning and 3:15pm - 6pm in the afternoon. Please ensure you have booked through Team Kids if you require before or after school care.

Grade 1 Newsletter Update Week 6 Term 3

Grade 1s have been learning all about Australian animals this term, including their habitats, physical features and diets. We have been reading both fiction and non-fiction texts and identifying facts about the animals in the texts. In Inquiry lessons, we have learnt all about different habitats and different reasons an animal might live in a certain place. We are also planting seeds and observing how they grow over the next few weeks.

To demonstrate and celebrate our learning, Grades 1C and 1D rehearsed and performed the viral song ‘Eastern Rosellas’ at Monday’s Assembly. Students had a great time practising using their singing voices and remembering the choreography.

In Maths, we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes, identifying objects in the real world that include shapes we know. Students are also beginning to make connections between addition and subtraction using number bonds and fact families.

We have a lot of exciting events coming up towards the end of this term. Some reminders for families:

We’re Halfway Through Term 3!

It is hard to believe that we are already halfway through Term 3! The Grade 4 students have had a fantastic start to the term and have been working hard across all areas of their learning. The students are continuing to bring plenty of energy and enthusiasm to the classroom and are loving life in Grade 4! It has been wonderful to see their confidence, independence and resilience continue to grow.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, students have been busy developing their understanding of fractions, multiplication and division. They have been exploring different ways to represent and compare fractions, while also building their multiplication and division skills through a range of strategies and problem-solving activities. Students are becoming more confident explaining their mathematical thinking and selecting strategies that work best for them.

English

During Reading, we have been enjoying our class text, Off We Go Around Australia. As we journey around Australia through the book, students have been developing their comprehension skills, exploring new vocabulary and learning about the incredible places, landmarks and features found across our country.

Our reading has also provided a meaningful link to our persuasive writing. Inspired by the places explored in the book, students have been creating persuasive pieces that aim to convince their audience to visit different Australian destinations. They have been learning to strengthen their writing through persuasive devices including emotive language, strong opinions and modal verbs, as well as using descriptive language and strong, powerful verbs to make their writing more engaging and convincing.

Digital Technologies

In Digital Technologies, our Grade 4 students have been developing their typing skills. We have been focusing on using the correct fingers, improving accuracy and gradually increasing our typing speed. Students have enjoyed challenging themselves and seeing their typing skills improve with practice.

A Friendly Brain Snack & Lunchbox Reminder

A gentle reminder for families to please ensure students bring a piece of fruit for Brain Snack each day. This gives students a healthy boost during the morning and helps them stay focused and ready for learning.

We also ask that students bring enough food to last them throughout the school day. Our Grade 4 students are growing children with busy days filled with learning and activity, so having enough nutritious food for their eating breaks is important to help keep their energy levels up. Thank you for your support with this!

We are incredibly proud of the effort the Grade 4 students have shown throughout the first half of the term. There has already been so much learning, growth and fun, and we are looking forward to seeing what the second half of Term 3 brings!

Our Grade 1 students have been extending their knowledge of symmetry in Visual Arts! Through pattern-making activities, students have been learning how shapes, lines and images can be divided into matching halves. They have experimented with creating symmetrical butterflies and patterns carefully checking that both sides reflect each other. This learning has encouraged students to develop their observation skills, creativity and understanding of balance in art while having lots of fun discovering symmetry all around them

Previous Next

Students have had a fun and active start to Term 3 during PE lessons at Ambrosia. Grade 2 students recently completed a unit on the fundamental movement skill of the overarm throw. They will now move on dodging in competitive games, including invasion and evasion games. Grade 3 students learned about a variety of Paralympic sports including Seated Volleyball, Goalball, Blind Soccer and Boccia. To complete Term 3, they will participate in a racket sports unit where they will learn the fundamentals of Tennis. Grade 4 students learned foundational skills for NRL Tag with a focus on passing, catching and evading defenders. They will now learn a variety of new skills in a unit focused on Volleyball. Grade 5 have been learning about space and movement concepts and applying them in Netball. To finish the term, they will revisit striking and fielding in T-Ball. Finally, Grade 6 students have been applying the forehand and backhand groundstrokes in a Tennis unit. They are now looking forward to completing a 10-week Bike Ed course where they will learn how to ride bikes safely and be responsible road users.

Hint: the tail

“Does” looks irregular based on how we pronounce the word, but its spelling is actually following a common English pattern. Look at the word goes. Both words have a base word—do and go—and the suffix -es is added:

• do + es → does
• go + es → goes

Although we pronounce these words differently, the spelling follows the same pattern. This shows that English spelling can be consistent even when pronunciation changes.

Our whole school production of Beveridge Beats 109.9FM: The Homegrown Hour is taking place during the last week of Term Three on Wednesday 16th September. We will have three performances – 10am, 1pm and 6pm. All three performances will be the same and all students are performing in all three shows. Ticket information will be sent out during Term Three.

All students from Foundation through to Year Six are taking part in the production. We kindly ask that families provide costumes for students specific to the song's genre and era. Please see information below so that you and your child/ren can begin to find items over the holidays to help build a costume. If you require further clarification, please contact the office and we will forward your query to the relevant person who will contact you.
