It has been another busy and exciting week at Beveridge Primary School, with plenty more to look forward to as we head into the final weeks of Term 3.

Book Week – Symphony of Stories

Tomorrow we celebrate Book Week with our whole-school activity day at the Ambrosia Campus. This year's theme, “Symphony of Stories”, is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the joy of reading, storytelling and the many different stories that bring us together.

All families are warmly invited to join us for our Book Week Costume Parade, commencing at approximately 9:15am at the Ambrosia Campus. We can't wait to see the fantastic characters and costumes our students and staff bring to life!

The celebrations will continue next week, with students participating in a range of classroom activities connected to this year's Book Week theme.

Grade 6 Camp – Alexandra Adventure Resort

Next week, our Grade 6 students head off to Alexandra Adventure Resort for their much-anticipated camp. Camp is always a highlight of the Grade 6 year and provides students with opportunities to challenge themselves, develop independence, strengthen friendships and demonstrate our school values outside the classroom.

We wish our Grade 6 students and accompanying staff a fantastic camp and look forward to hearing about their adventures when they return!

Grade 1 Edendale Farm Incursion

Our Grade 1 students are getting ready for an exciting Edendale Community Environment Farm incursion next Monday and Tuesday. Students will have the opportunity to explore nature, learn more about sustainable living and, of course, meet some friendly farm animals along the way.

It promises to be a wonderful hands-on learning experience for our Grade 1 students.

Father's Day Stalls

And lastly, don't forget that our Father's Day Stalls are coming up next week:

• Tuesday – Ambrosia Campus
• Thursday– Arrowsmith Campus

The stalls are always an exciting opportunity for students to choose something special for their dads, grandfathers or other important people in their lives. A big thank you to everyone involved in organising and running the stalls for our students.

Get your costumes ready! We are celebrating BOOK WEEK at Beveridge PS. We will be celebrating with our whole school activity day on Friday 28th August. The theme is ‘Symphony of Stories!’

On Friday 28th all students will be attending the senior campus - 30 Ambrosia Way. The Arrowsmith campus will be closed for this day.

Please note a few important reminders for this day:

DROP OFF/PICK UP TIMES

Morning drop off between 8:30am - 9am.

Afternoon pick up between 3:15 - 3:45pm

Prep and Grade 1 students are to be collected from the gym in the afternoon.

FERGUSON PLARRE LUNCH ORDERS

We will have the Ferguson Plarre special lunch on this day - a reminder that orders close Thursday 20th August. No late orders can be accepted.

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 17 August to Friday 18 September 2026.

All families are invited to participate in the survey.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.

The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents / caregivers / guardians who speak a language other than English at home. Please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school directly for survey guides in your language.

The survey results will be communicated to parents / caregivers / guardians through annual reporting once results become available to us. Last year we used the survey results to plan for the following year.

Foundation Learning Update

English
In Reading, students have been continuing to work in teacher-led groups to develop their reading skills. We are learning to take turns, listen to our peers and use our growing sound knowledge to read books together. In Writing, we have been using graphic organisers to retell the story How to Catch a Star. Students have been identifying the characters, setting, beginning, middle and end of the story, and using this information to write sentences.

Mathematics
We have started exploring Australian coins and learning how to identify and compare them by their shapes and sizes. Students have been putting their knowledge into practice through our classroom shops. We have also been learning about length, using language such as longer than and shorter than when comparing items. Students have been comparing and ordering objects from shortest to longest.

Inquiry
Our Inquiry focus this term is Geography. We are exploring special places, discussing what makes a place special to us and learning about ways we can care for and protect these places. This week, we have been learning about places that are significant to the First Nations Peoples of Australia and why they are important.

Wellbeing
We are continuing to learn about the Zones of Regulation. This week, students have been exploring the different emotions they may experience during a school day and identifying which zone those emotions belong to. They have also been learning about the tools and strategies they can use to help them return to the Green Zone, where they feel calm, focused and ready to learn.

WORLD OF MATHS

A few weeks ago, our Year 2 and 3 students had a very exciting visit from World of Maths!

Students worked in small groups to complete a range of fun, hands-on maths activities and challenges. They used their problem-solving skills, teamwork and mathematical thinking to solve puzzles, investigate patterns and find different solutions.

It was wonderful to see students working together, sharing their ideas and showing persistence when faced with a tricky challenge. The incursion was a fantastic way for students to see that maths can be fun, practical and all around us!

YEAR 2s

Our Year 2 students have been busy with lots of exciting learning this term!

In Writing, students have been learning about information reports, with a focus on Australian animals. They have been researching interesting facts about different animals and using these to create their own informative pieces.

In Geography and Digital Technologies, students have been learning about the different states and territories of Australia. They have each chosen a state to investigate and are creating a digital presentation that includes information about its population, cities, landmarks, native animals and state floral emblem.

In Maths, students have been developing their understanding of multiplication and division. They have been using a range of hands-on activities and strategies to explore equal groups, sharing and different ways to solve multiplication and division problems.

Grade 6 Camp (Week 8)

Excitement is building as our Grade 6 students prepare for their upcoming camp at Alexandra Adventure Resort from Wednesday 2 September to Friday 4 September 2026. Camp will provide students with a fantastic opportunity to challenge themselves, develop their independence and strengthen friendships through a range of exciting activities and shared experiences. We look forward to seeing our students demonstrate teamwork, resilience and leadership throughout their time away.

Swimming and Water Safety

This week marks the conclusion of our Swimming and Water Safety Program at Paul Sadler Swimland, Mickleham. Throughout the program, students have developed important swimming techniques and water safety skills while building their confidence in and around the water. It has been wonderful to see students challenging themselves and supporting one another throughout the program.

English

In English, students have finished reading our class text, Us Mob Walawurru. Through their reading, students have continued to develop their comprehension skills while exploring important aspects of Australian history and First Nations perspectives. Students have also completed a recount of the 1967 Referendum, demonstrating their understanding of this significant event and its place in Australia's history.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, students have been developing their understanding of the Order of Operations. Students have been using BODMAS to determine the correct sequence when evaluating expressions involving multiplication, addition and subtraction. Through explicit teaching, worked examples and independent practice, students are developing greater confidence when solving multi-step number problems.

Inquiry: Australia's System of Government

Grade 6 students have begun an exciting new Inquiry unit exploring Australia's System of Government. Throughout the unit, students will investigate Australia's democratic values, the Westminster system and the role of the monarchy.

Students will learn about the responsibilities of Parliament, the Executive and the Judiciary, including how laws are proposed, debated and passed. They will also explore the different responsibilities of local, state and federal governments and investigate how these levels of government work together, including when preparing for major events such as the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Throughout the unit, students will continue developing their research and communication skills by gathering reliable information and creating infographics to clearly communicate their understanding of Australia's systems of government.

Performing Arts Arrowsmith

The students have been continuously working hard on their concert song, rehearsing and practicing walking on and off stage. To reward their efforts they have been given opportunities to learn about and try different instruments. The concert is fast approaching and all the students are feeling very excited to perform.

At Ambrosia in Performing Arts we have been learning to continually improve and better our performances. We have been combining classes for rehearsals so that we can feel what it will be like when we perform in front of an audience. Students have had opportunities to learn different songs, dances and drama activities to have a break from learning about the production.

There are many homophones in English.

Homo means same and phone means sound. Homophones are words that sound the same but are spelled differently and have different meanings.

For example, here and hear are homophones.

The word here is related to there because they both have to do with location.

The word hear is connected to ear because both are related to listening and sound.

Even though here and hear sound the same, looking at their related words can help us understand their meaning and spelling.

Our whole school production of Beveridge Beats 109.9FM: The Homegrown Hour is taking place during the last week of Term Three on Wednesday 16th September. We will have three performances – 10am, 1pm and 6pm. All three performances will be the same and all students are performing in all three shows. Ticket information will be sent out during Term Three.

All students from Foundation through to Year Six are taking part in the production. We kindly ask that families provide costumes for students specific to the song's genre and era. Please see information below so that you and your child/ren can begin to find items over the holidays to help build a costume. If you require further clarification, please contact the office and we will forward your query to the relevant person who will contact you.
