Dear Families,

What a fantastic celebration of Book Week we had last Friday! Thank you to our students, staff and families for the amazing effort and enthusiasm that went into our whole-school activity day. It certainly was a ‘Symphony of Stories’ at the Ambrosia Campus, with an incredible array of characters bringing our favourite books to life.

It was wonderful to have so many families join us for the morning parade and share in the excitement. A huge thank you to our staff for all the planning and creativity that made the day such a success. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event!

Grade 6 Camp

Our Grade 6 students and staff are having a fabulous time away at Alexandra Adventure Camp this week. They’ve been busy challenging themselves with a range of activities, enjoying time with their friends and, from all reports, perhaps staying up just a little later than usual!

District Athletics – Tomorrow

Tomorrow, we are proud to have a group of our senior students representing our school at District Athletics. It is a fantastic achievement to progress to this level, and we know they will represent our school with pride.

Happy Father’s Day

Our Father’s Day stalls have taken place across both campuses this week, with students very excited to select something special to take home. Thanks to our P&F members for organising and hosting the stalls.

With Father’s Day this Sunday, we wish a very Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, grandpas, pops and special father figures in our school community. We hope you enjoy a wonderful day with your families.

Grade 1 Environmental Explorers: Our Edendale Farm Incursion!

What a spectacular, hands-on day of discovery our Grade 1 students had on Tuesday! The classrooms were buzzing with excitement as we welcomed specialist educators from Edendale Farm for an unforgettable sustainability incursion that brought our science and inquiry units to life.

Our young eco-warriors dove headfirst into the natural world, rotating through three fantastic workshops:

 Calico Bag Prints: Creative sparks flew as students transferred natural pigments from fresh flowers and foliage onto fabric. Pounding the petals revealed vibrant designs, leaving everyone with a beautiful, custom drawstring bag to take home.

 Habitat Heroes: Curiosity took over as kids investigated wildlife biodiversity. They learned how indigenous plants attract birds, bees, and frogs, and discovered how simple features like logs and insect hotels provide crucial garden shelter.

 Soil Matters: The wriggly highlights of the day were definitely the compost worms! Students observed them up close, learning about their life cycles and their vital role in diverting organic waste from landfills.

The outstanding focus and teamwork shown by our Grade 1 cohort made us incredibly proud. A huge thank you to Edendale Farm and our wonderful families for supporting this fantastic experience!

What’s Been Happening in Grade 3

Literacy:
In Literacy, we have been learning how to use onomatopoeia to make our writing more exciting. We have also been exploring what makes a well-sequenced narrative, ensuring our ideas and events flow in a clear order. Students have continued to build their vocabulary by learning words such as monotonous, meek and innocently.

Mathematics:
In Maths, we have been developing our understanding of a range of concepts, including money, fractions and patterns. Students have been using different strategies and applying their mathematical thinking to a variety of tasks.

Inquiry:
In Inquiry, students have been exploring the unique places of Australia. They have been designing informative posters about fascinating locations, including Fraser Island (K’gari), the Pinnacles and the Fairy Circles.

Wellbeing:
In Wellbeing, we have been learning about the importance of being an upstander rather than a bystander. Students have explored ways they can safely speak up, support others and make positive choices when they see something that isn’t right.

Grade 5 students have been learning how to read, plan and write information reports. Throughout the unit, students have explored a range of information texts and learned how an information text is structured. 

Students have practised identifying key information, note taking, and using topic-specific vocabulary. They also learned how to structure an information report with a clear introduction, focused body paragraphs, and a purposeful conclusion. Using model texts such as Animal Adaptations and Rainforests at Risk, students examined how a body paragraph explains one main idea using facts, details, and explanations.

As part of the writing process, students planned their reports carefully before drafting. They created paragraph plans, revisited their introductions and conclusions, and edited their writing using a rubric. Students also focused on improving sentence fluency by using adverbials and conjunctions to connect ideas clearly.

This unit has supported students to become more confident factual writers who can organise information, explain ideas clearly and use evidence from texts to inform their audience.

There are many homophones in English.

Homo means same and phone means sound. Homophones are words that sound the same but are spelled differently and have different meanings.

For example, here and hear are homophones.

The word here is related to there because they both have to do with location.

The word hear is connected to ear because both are related to listening and sound.

Even though here and hear sound the same, looking at their related words can help us understand their meaning and spelling.

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 17 August to Friday 18 September 2026.

All families are invited to participate in the survey.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.

The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents / caregivers / guardians who speak a language other than English at home. Please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school directly for survey guides in your language.

The survey results will be communicated to parents / caregivers / guardians through annual reporting once results become available to us. Last year we used the survey results to plan for the following year.

Our whole school production of Beveridge Beats 109.9FM: The Homegrown Hour is taking place during the last week of Term Three on Wednesday 16th September. We will have three performances – 10am, 1pm and 6pm. All three performances will be the same and all students are performing in all three shows. Ticket information will be sent out during Term Three.

All students from Foundation through to Year Six are taking part in the production. We kindly ask that families provide costumes for students specific to the song's genre and era. Please see information below so that you and your child/ren can begin to find items over the holidays to help build a costume. If you require further clarification, please contact the office and we will forward your query to the relevant person who will contact you.
