Learning

In Term 1, the Grade 1 students are focusing on the following:

• Reading – Understanding the sequence of texts and using a range of strategies to work out unknown words (phonics, rereading, picture clues).
• Writing – forming letters correctly on the lines and using phonic knowledge to spell common words. Students will compose sentences using the structure: adjective, verb, noun, verb, adverb.
• Numeracy – Developing counting and number understanding to 120, early addition and subtraction and understanding length, mass and capacity.
• Inquiry – Our Inquiry topic this term is “Family history”. The focus will be on their personal history and that of their family. Students will also learn about the history of Beveridge.

Home Learning

Home Reading – read everyday for at least 20 min using your Home Reader book. This should be adults reading to children and children reading to adults.
