Learning

In Term 4, the Grade 1 students are focusing on the following:

• Reading – Answering comprehension questions about a text including questions where the answer is not stated directly in the text, using a range of strategies to work out unknown words (phonics, rereading, picture clues), discussing images, opinions and facts, and learning how different types of texts are organised.
• Writing – forming letters correctly on the lines and using phonic knowledge to spell common words, exploring and writing persuasive texts.
• Numeracy – Practising counting goals, learning to name and represent numbers in the hundreds using numerals, materials and number lines, forming questions to conduct a survey, creating a graph based on their data and answering questions about their graphs.
• Inquiry – Our Inquiry topic this term is “Earth and Space Science - Up in the sky”.

Home Learning

Home Reading – read every day for at least 20 min. Children should be reading their “I read to you” book and parents should be reading, or assisting children to read the “Read to me” books. Books will be changed once a week. Please be aware of your child’s day to change their home readers and make sure they have their home reading folder on the correct day.

Math Seeds & Reading Eggs – your child can log into these apps/websites at home to practice their reading and numeracy. (If you don’t have the login details, please contact the classroom teacher)

Complete any unfinished class tasks sent home to complete.
