Learning
In Term 2, the Grade 1 students are focusing on the following:
Reading
- Answering comprehension questions about a text, including making connections to texts.
- Using a range of strategies to work out unknown words (phonics knowledge, rereading, picture clues).
Writing
- Forming letters correctly on the lines and using phonic knowledge to spell common words.
- Students will also be writing procedural texts and recounts.
Mathematics
- Multiplication and division using the terms ‘groups of’ and ‘sharing’.
- Recognising and representing numbers to 120.
- Skip counting by 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s forwards and backwards to 120.
- Recognising, creating and continuing patterns.
- Recording and understanding data, including the use of tally marks.
Inquiry
- Our Inquiry topic this term is “Light and Sound”.
Home Learning
Home Reading – read every day for at least 20 min. Children should be reading their “I read to you” book and parents should be reading, or assisting children to read the “Read to me” books. Books will be changed once a week. Please be aware of your child’s day to change their home readers and make sure they have their home reading folder on the correct day.
