Net & Wall Sports
During Year 5 Sport over the past two weeks, students have enjoyed participating in a variety of Net & Wall sports.
Week 2: Grade 5 students rotated through three stations, having the opportunity to play Badminton, Table Tennis, Tennis, Pickleball, and Bat Tennis. The focus for the week was to work in groups of four to create the longest possible rally.
Week 3: The focus shifted to more competitive matches. Students were introduced to the concept of ‘Fast 4’ scoring, a simple system for keeping score in their games. They could choose from any of the sports listed above and try to get their name on the leaderboard in one of two competition styles:
The students should be commended for their efforts, and it was fantastic to see students having the opportunity to choose their preferred sports, score and referee their own games and enjoy the sunshine and physical activity. Students and teachers alike have commented on how much they enjoyed the sessions and are looking forward to more opportunities to be involved in Net & Wall sports.

Cross CountryFollowing our school cross country 50 students were chosen to represent our school at the Mitchell District Cross Country Carnival. On Wednesday the 28th of March, the students travelled to Kilmore Racing Club for the District Event. The students did an excellent job representing our school and showing the school values of Respect, Togetherness, Resilience and Excellence.
We had a great day, despite the cold winds and managed to stay mostly dry for the day. 2km for the 9/10-year-olds and 3km for the 11/12/13s proved to quite the challenge and everyone certainly gave it their all! The efforts of the following students in particular should be commended, earning their place at the Whittlesea Division Carnival back in Kilmore next Wednesday the 4th June. We wish our athletes all the best for the next round!

BPS Swimming Carnival
On Friday the 7th of February, BPS students went to Mandalay Club for our school swimming carnival. All students attended and competed for their house colour. Students were given the choice to race or complete a lap in the participation lane for house points.
We are very grateful for all the students who entered the pool, participated and displayed resilience during the event. Thank you to all students for being so supportive and respectful to each other.
There were many highlights, and we were very excited to see so many fast swimmers. Thank you to the parents who attended, the teachers for organising the event and making sure everything ran smoothly.
A special mention for Warrin (YELLOW) house for the best use of their new name! The winning house for the school swimming carnival was Marram (RED) house. Well done Marram for being both the loudest and the winning house.
We had a number of records broken including the K twins being the first to contest the 8/9/10 Boys Butterfly with Owen K. taking the win, and Ivy A. breaking three records and recording our fastest backstroke time for the day despite being only 8 years old! A huge effort.
Our fastest students have been selected to represent our school at the Mitchell District Swimming Carnival on the 21st Feb. The event will see all of the fastest swimmers from across our district compete to earn their place at the division carnival later in the term.
District Swimming
The district swimming carnival was a fun day of competition, but in the end it all came down to your time. Students finishing first or second have earned their place in the next level which is division. Now if you want to talk about Beveridge we finished 5th out of 8 schools, individually we had a few firsts and many 2nds and 3rds plus there were a lot of races that came down to a flip of a coin that did not go our way.
To start off the day, many people had big nerves, We would like to give a big shout out to the students in the 10 and under who competed for the first time at district swimming and had the extra pressure of racing first! With our junior students being the most successful from the day. Here are the list of names that made it through, Owen.K, Logan.K, Leonard.H, Ivy.A, Hudson.L, Archie.C, Olivia.T, and Raya.A.
All the teachers were there to support, encourage and get us through the nerves, but a shout out to Ms. Denny for being the most energetic and encouraging teacher out there. Although we didn't have the best year at district swimming, we gave it all and came home with a couple of ribbons.

Division Swimming
On the 6th of March, students selected for the Mitchell District Swim Team met at Broadmeadows Leisure Centre for the Division Swimming Carnival. Our Division Carnival sees both the Woodland and Whittlesea Division event held concurrently. A huge day of action in the pool, plenty of close races and tough competition. Our young team competed well with several students barely missing out on a ribbon on their first visit to a district championship. Hopefully, this young team is a good sign for years to come and they will continue to be competitive as they progress through the age groups. While everyone gave it their all, only one swimmer in Ivy A. has made it through to the Northern Metropolitan Region (NMR) Swimming Carnival. We wish her all the best in her competition and can’t wait to hear about her experience at a Regional Carnival next week. Division Team
