Learning:

In Term 2, the Grade 5 students are focusing on the following:

  • Reading – Students will read a range of texts to revise and strengthen their comprehension skills, with a focus on making connections, summarising and answering questions. Students will also build their vocabulary by learning how to spell and use more complex words.
  • Writing – Students will further develop their persuasive writing skills, focusing on extending sentences and structuring paragraphs.
  • Mathematics – Students will build on their numeration and multiplication and division knowledge. This will be complemented by learning about area and perimeter.
  • Inquiry – Our Inquiry topics this term are Civics and Citizenship, and Economics and Business.

Home Learning may consist of:

  • borrowing books from the Library on a weekly basis (students must bring a Library bag)
  • daily reading to, with, or by a parent/carer or older sibling
  • practising reading fluency
  • researching topics related to class learning
  • completing consolidation activities for Mathematics
  • practising sports skills
  • practising and playing musical instruments
  • completing research projects and extension activities
  • using Literacy and Numeracy online applications to support learning (e.g. Khan Academy, eBooks, audiobooks)
