Learning:

In Term 1, the Grade 5 students are focusing on the following:

  • Reading – Students will read a range of texts to revise their comprehension skills, specifically focusing on making connections, summarising and answering questions. Students will build and develop their vocabulary learning how to spell and use more complex words. 
  • Writing – Students will further develop their narrative writing skills focusing specifically on structuring paragraphs.
  • Mathematics– Students will build on their numeration and addition/subtraction knowledge. This will be complemented by their learning of data and perimeter and area. 
  • Inquiry – Our Inquiry topic this term is Australian History, focusing on  Australian Colonies.

 

Home Learning may consist of:

  • borrowing of books from the Library on a weekly basis (must have Library bag) 
  • daily reading to, with, or by parents/carer or older siblings
  • researching topics associated with set class work 
  • practising reading fluency
  • completing consolidation exercises for mathematics 
  • practising sports skills
  • practising and playing musical instruments 
  • research project and extension activities
  • Literacy/Numeracy online applications to support learning (ie. ebooks, audio books, Khan Academy)
