Learning

In term 4, the grade 5 students are focusing on the following:

  • English- In English, the term will begin with a character analysis using the novel Black Cockatoo. Students will then explore poetry and wordless texts. 
  • Numeracy – Grade 5 will begin the term by solving problems involving the addition and subtraction of fractions. This learning will progress into exploring percentages, followed by an introduction to probability and chance. Students will also investigate concepts of time, angles, and transformations such as reflections and rotations. The term will conclude with a revision of multiplication and division strategies.
  • Inquiry – Our inquiry topic this term is Chemical Sciences. Students will learn about the observable properties of matter (solids, liquids and gases). 

 

Home Learning

Homework may consist of:

  • borrowing of books from the Library on a weekly basis (must have Library bag) 
  • daily reading to, with, or by parents/carer or older siblings
  • researching topics associated with set class work 
  • practising reading fluency
  • completing consolidation exercises for mathematics 
  • practising sports skills
  • practising and playing musical instruments 
  • research project and extension activities
  • Literacy/Numeracy online applications to support learning (ie. ebooks, audio books, Khan Academy)


Students are generally not expected to complete more than 30 - 45 minutes of homework per day.
